The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during January 2016. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently in place at UEFA Champions and Europa League and FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia preliminary competition to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

02 January 2016 – Spanish La Liga: RCD Espanyol v FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona Neymar was subjected to racist chants from a group of Espanyol fans.

The Spanish professional league reported the incident to the country’s Anti-Violence Committee for Sports.

16 January 2016 – Welsh Premier League: Port Talbot Town v Airbus UK Brought

Airbus UK Broughton manager Andy Preece was racially abused by a Port Talbot spectator.

17 January 2016 – Dutch Eredivisie: ADO Den Haag v Ajax Amsterdam

Ajax midfielder Riechedly Bazoer was subjected to repeated racist abuse by a section of ADO Den Haag fans.

17 January 2016 – Spanish Segunda B: Granada CF v Linares Deportivo

Linares Deportivo player Juanfran directed racist abuse towards the fans of Granada CF regarding the signing of black players.

17 January 2016 – Spanish Women’s Primera División: Sporting Huelva v Santa Teresa

Sporting Huelva Helena Pavel accused the referee Santiago Quijada Alcon of sexist behaviour.

19 January 2016 – Italian Coppa Italia: Intern Milan v Napoli

Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini accused Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri of using homophobic language.

23 January 2016 – Spanish La Liga: Málaga CF v FC Barcelona

A group of around 500 Málaga fans sang discriminatory songs against FC Barcelona.

A report was sent by La Liga to the Disciplinary Sporting Committee.

24 January 2016 – Italian Serie A: Juventus v Roma

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi was accused of racially abusing Juventus Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic.

24 January 2016 - Spanish La Liga: Atlético de Madrid v Sevilla FC

A group of about 2000 Atlético fans sang discriminatory songs against Sevilla FC.

A report was sent by La Liga to the Disciplinary Sporting Committee.

30 January 2016 – Scottish Premiership Championship: Livingston v Dumbarton

A group of Livingston supporters has allegedly racially abused the team’s captain Darren Cole.

Livingston are investigating the claims.

31 January 2016 – English FA Cup: Carlisle United v Everton

A group of Carlisle United fans chanted racist abuse towards Everton Ivorian player Arouna Koné.

The police are investigating the incident.

Sanctions

Aberdeen Sheriff Court: Ross Gibson

Aberdeen FC fan Ross Gibson was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and banned from attending football matches for a year for putting offensive messages on social media, including some about a disabled young Celtic fan.

The man was charged following a Parkhead match between Celtic and Aberdeen in March 2015.

ADO Den Haag: ADO Den Haag fans

Dutch club ADO Den Haag banned 22 fans from attending home and away matches over racism chants during the ADO v Ajax match on 17 February.

The ban will remain in place until they are given their final punishment by ADO Den Haag or Dutch football association KNVB. They fans were also informed that ADO Den Haag will recover any financial loss suffered from them.

Colombia: Club Deportivo Atlético Junior

Club Deportivo Atlético Junior appologise over racism towards a club cheerleader.

Croatia Supreme Court: Zdravko Mamić

Croatia Supreme Court ordered Dinamo Zagreb executive director Zdravko Mamić to publicly apologise for discriminatory remarks against gays made in 2010.

The tribunal also banned Mamić from any further public comments discriminating against gays.

FIFA: Football Associations of Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Chile and Honduras

FIFA have sanctioned six Latin American countries following homophobic incidents at FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in October and November.

Argentina, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay were fined 20,000 Swiss Francs (18,260 Euros) for individual incidents, the Chile FA has been fined 70,000 Swiss Francs (63,925 Euros) for four cases at different matches.

Proceedings against Honduras are still ongoing.

Kyiv prosecutor: Dynamo Kyiv

Kyiv prosecutor suspended a 22-year-old man, with a probation period of one year, for the racist attack of a group of black fans at the Dynamo v Chelsea Champions League match on 20 October 2015.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court: Southampton fans

Southampton Magistrates’ Court have banned two Southampton fans over their anti-Semitic behaviour at the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on 19 December.

Both fans were sentenced to a three-year banning order preventing them from attending games in Britain and requiring them to hand passports to police before major games abroad.
