Understanding and tackling sectarianism and discrimination in football will be the key theme of a major conference taking place in Scotland on 21 October organised as part of Fare action weeks.

The ‘Football, Education and Prejudice’, to take place in Glasgow, will bring together organisations such as the University of West Scotland, in partnership with the anti-sectarianism charity Nil by Mouth and Glasgow City Council’s anti-sectarianism charity Sense over Sectarianism to address sectarianism and other forms of discrimination.

The conference aims to redress the issue and form a measured and targeted response as to how football, collectively between supporters, associations and clubs, can tackle forms of prejudice together with the assistance of relevant stakeholders, particularly in the various educational sectors.

The day will be split to cover three key areas: homophobia and gender, sectarianism, racism and xenophobia. Keynote speakers will present papers on the different topics and research on changing attitudes on homophobia in the game and the history of sectarianism prejudice in football.

The initiative is the first of its kind in Scotland and is being funding by Fare to be one of the key events of the this year's Football People weeks.
