Malta FA address gender-based violence and refugee inclusion during Football People weeks
Malta Football Association (MFA) is partnering-up with Fare to run a workshop on refugee inclusion and launch a nation-wide campaign to address gender-based violence during the Football People week.
The governing body of Maltese football in collaboration with the President’s Foundation for the Well-Being of Society launched on Friday 13 October the campaign ‘Zero tolerance to Gender-based Violence’ at the National Stadium in Ta’Qali. Four Maltese footballers joined the collaborative campaign to stop gender-based violence.
In response to statistics from CrimeMalta Annual Review that cases of domestic violence have risen from 450 in 2008 to 1,272 last year, strikers Michael Mifsud and Alfred Effiong, defender Andrei Agius and goalkeeper Andrew Hogg are participating in a video-message which aims to assert that there are no winners when such violence occurs. International referee Trustin Farrugia Cann and Gabriella Zahra from the national women’s team also participated in the video.
As part of the two-day event, a workshop on refugee inclusion will be held on Saturday 14 October, which will see the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca give a keynote speech and a number of NGOs, including Integra Foundation, Spark15, and Unite Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Malta share their experiences and discuss how football can help integrate those who seek refuge.
The workshop will also serve as platform to establish a network of organisations under the same topic - ‘Integration and Inclusivity in Football’ - to further promote equality, integration and inclusion.
The workshop will be streamed live on Facebook.
