List of incidents reported to Fare during October 2019

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during October 2019. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 October 2019 – UEFA Champions League: FK Crvena Zvezda v Olympiacos F.C.

Fare witnessed the display of a neo-Nazi banner by Olympiacos F.C. away supporters during the game. A report was sent to UEFA.

02 October 2019 – Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup: NK Siroki Brijeg v FK Sarajevo

NK Siroki Brijeg supporters chanted xenophobic and Islamophobic slurs at FK Sarajevo players during the game.

02 October 2019 – UEFA Champions League: Lille OSC v Chelsea F.C

Fare witnessed a group of Chelsea F.C. away supporters chanting far right and anti-Roma discriminatory chants. A report was sent to UEFA.

03 October 2019 – UEFA Europa League: SS Lazio v Stade Rennais F.C.

Fare witnessed a group of SS Lazio home supporters performing Nazi salutes during the game. A report was sent to UEFA.

05 October 2019 – English Premier League: Norwich City F.C. v Aston Villa F.C.

A group of Aston Villa F.C. supporters racially abused their own midfielder Marvellous Nakamba in a song featuring racist stereotypes. Aston Villa F.C. has launched an investigation.

05 October 2019 – English Premier League: Brighton & Hove Albion v Tottenham

An individual Brighton fan hurled racist abuse at Tottenham players.

13 October 2019 – U15 Kreisliga Donau/Isar: SC Eintracht Freising e.V. v VfB Eichstätt

The C-Juniors of SC Eintracht Freising e.V were racially abused during the game by both away supporters and VfB Eichstätt players.

15 October 2019 – UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifiers: Bulgaria v England

Fare observers recorded Bulgaria national team supporters racially abusing England players during the game. The match was stopped twice.

16 October 2019 – Germany Fußball-C-Liga: 1. FC Schwabsburg II v 1817 Mainz II

1817 Mainz II defender was racially abused by FC Schwabsburg II supporters during the game.

19 October 2019 – Dutch First Division: FC Utrecht v PSV Eindhoven

FC Utrecht supporters chanted homophobic chants during the game.

19 October 2019 – Belgian First Amateur Division: R. Olympic Charleroi Châtelet Farciennes v KSK Lierse Kempenzonen

KSK Lierse Kempenzonen supporters chanted xenophobic and racist chants aimed at R. Olympic Charleroi Châtelet Farciennes supporters and players. The Royal Belgian Football Association has launched an investigation.

19 October 2019 – English FA Cup: Haringey Borough F.C. v Yeovil Town F.C.

Yeovil Town F.C. supporters racially abused Haringey Borough F.C players during the game. Haringey players walked off the pitch with match abandoned and then ordered to be replayed by English FA.

19 October 2019 – English Championship – Bristol City v Luton

Bristol fans chanted racist chants at Luton fans.

20 October 2019 – Scottish League Cup: Heart of Midlothian F.C. v Rangers F.C.

Rangers F.C. forward, Alfredo Morelos, was racially abused by Hearts fans. An investigation has been launched.

20 October 2019 – Italian Serie A: U.C. Sampdoria v A.S. Roma

U.C. Sampdoria’s midfielder Ronaldo Vieira was subject to racial abuse from A.S. Roma supporters during the game.

20 October 2019 – English Premier League: Manchester United F.C. v Liverpool F.C.

A Manchester United F.C. fan racially abused Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold during the game.

22 October 2019 – English League Two: Bradford City AFC v Port Vale F.C

A Bradford City AFC supporter was racially abused before the game.

23 October 2019 – UEFA Champions League: K.R.C. Genk v Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool supporters displayed banner using a racial stereotype aimed at Liverpool F.C. striker Divock Origi. An investigation has been launched.

24 October 2019 – Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup: Bashundhare Kings v Chenai City FC

Chenai City FC player, Katsumi Yusa, was racially abused by the referee during the match.

24 October 2019 – UEFA Europa League: FK Partizan v Manchester United F.C.

Fare observed a large group of FK Partizan home supporters chanting homophobic chants towards Manchester United players outside the stadium. A report was sent to UEFA.

26 October 2019 – English National League – Chesterfield v Notts County

Chesterfield fans sang a racist chant referencing striker Mike Fondop.

5 October 2019 – English Premier League – Hamza Choudhury/ Twitter, Instagram

Choudhury was called a 'n*****' and a 'f****** monkey' in posts by users on Twitter and Instagram following a tackle on Mohammed Salah during Liverpool v Leicester on 5 October 2019.

9 October 2019 – English Premier League

Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace winger, was subject to racial abuse on social media.

Sanctions

UEFA

Bulgaria was sanctioned with stadium closure for the following UEFA match and a €75, 000 fine due to the racist incidents that took place during the UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifiers match on 15 October 2019.

Serbia was sanctioned with stadium closure for the following two UEFA matches and a €33,500 fine due to the racist incidents that took place during the UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifiers match on 7 September 2019.

SS Lazio have been sanctioned with partial stadium closure during the next UEFA match and a fine of €20,000 due to the racist incidents that took place during the UEFA Europa League group stage match between S.S. Lazio and Stade Rennais FC on 3 October 2019.

SK Slovan Bratislava have been sanctioned with stadium closure during the next UEFA match and a fine of €50,000 as result of the racist incidents that took place during the UEFA Europa League play-off round between SK Slovan Bratislava v PAOK FC on 22 August 2019.

Hungarian Football Federation has been sanctioned with stadium closure during the next UEFA match and a fine of €67,125 due to the racist incidents that took place during the UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifiers between Hungary and Slovakia on 9 September 2019.

Serie A

Atalanta B.C. have been fined with €10,000 for a racial abuse directed at ACF Fiorentina defender Dalbert during the Atalanta B.C. v Fiorentina match on 22 September 2019.

Manchester United F.C.

Manchester United F.C. have issued an indefinite ban to the individual who racially abused Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold during the Manchester United F.C. v Liverpool F.C. on 20 October 2019.
