The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during August 2018. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.
All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.
Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

02 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Radnicki Niš v Maccabi Tel-Aviv
Members of the Radnicki Niš fan group Meraklije displayed a neo-Nazi banner during the match.
A report was sent to UEFA for action.
02 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Rangers FC v NK Osijek
Several large groups of Rangers FC fans sang sectarian songs during the match.

02 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Slovan Bratislava v Balzan FC
Approximately 50 Slovan Bratislava fans directed monkey chants towards Balzan player Lecao (Alex da Paixão Alves) during the first half of the match.

04 August 2018 – Chinese Super League: Changchun Yatai v Shanghai Shenhua
Changchun Yatai midfielder Zhang Li racially abused Shanghai Shenhua player Demba Ba during the match.
04 August 2018 – The Bolivian Professional Football League: Club Destroyers v Club Jorge Westermann
Club Jorge Westermann player Serginho was racially abused during the match by a large group of Destroyers fans and Destroyers player Erwin Melgar.
04 August 2018 – Ecuadorian Serie A: El Nacional v LDU Quito
LDU Quito player Gastón Rodríguez racially abused El Nacional defender Javier Quiñónez during the match.
09 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Rangers FC v Maribor
Large groups of Rangers FC fans sang sectarian songs during the match.

09 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: CSKA Sofia v FC Copenhagen
A group of CSKA Sofia fans displayed a neo-Nazi flag during the Europa League against FC Copenhagen.
11 August 2018 – Ecuadorian Serie A: Técnico Universitario v El Nacional
A group of Técnico Universitario fans directed monkey chants towards El Nacional goalkeeper Johan Padilla during the match.
12 August 2018 – Ecuadorian Football Commentator
A commentator at the Ecuadorian Serie A match between Independiente del Valle and Emelec made a racist comment on air about Independiente player Stiven Plaza.
13 August 2018 - Ecuadorian Serie A: LDU Quito v S.D. Aucas
A group of LDU Quito fans directed racist chanting towards several S.D. Aucas players during the match.
13 August 2018 – Raheem Sterling
During the BBC’s Football Daily podcast, pundit Ian Wright claimed that the media’s negative bias towards England player Raheem Sterling is racially motivated.
14 August 2018 – Swiss FA General Secretary Alex Miescher
Swiss FA General Secretary Alex Miescher resigned after he commented that players with dual nationalities can create problems.
14 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Spartak Trnava v FK Crvena Zvezda
Before the match started, several thousand Spartak Trnava fans sang anti-Roma chants.

15 August 2018 – Manchester City’s Youth Scouting and Recruitment Manager Dean Ramsdale
Manchester City’s Youth Scouting and Recruitment Manager Dean Ramsdale received a warning from the club after he made a racist slur when talking about black players.
15 August 2018 – Carabao Cup: West Bromwich Albion v Luton Town
A group of Luton Town fans glorified English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson by chanting the far right activist’s name during the match.
16 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: APOEL V Hapoel Beer-Sheva
A group of APOEL fans displayed a neo-Nazi banner before the match started

18 August 2018 – Argentinian First Division: Club Atlético Banfield v Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata
Gimnasia Captain Fabian Rinaudo racially abused Banfield goalkeeper Iván Arboleda during the match.
18 August 2018 – S.S. Lazio’s Irriducibili Ultra Group
A group of Lazio’s Irriducibili Ultras distributed a letter during the club’s first league match of the new season demanding that women are banned from the first ten rows of the Curva Nord area of the stadium because they are only there to accompany their partners.
18 August 2018 – Dutch Eredivisie: VVV Venlo v AFC Ajax
A VVV Venlo fan directed monkey chants towards Ajax players during the match.
22 August 2018 – A.S. Siracusa Calcio’s “Curva Anna Siracusa” Ultra group
Italian Third Division team A.S. Siracusa Calcio’s “Curva Anna Siracusa” ultra group have banned women from the first ten rows of their stand, following Lazio’s Irriducibili ultras.
23 August 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Torpedo Kutaisi v PFC Ludogorets
A group of Torpedo Kutaisi fans displayed a neo-Nazi banner, performed Nazi salutes and chanted Sieg Heil at the end of the match.

25 August 2018 – English League Two: Newport County v Grimsby Town
A Grimsby Town fan was arrested after making racist comments in the stadium.
25 August 2018 – English Conference League: Ebbsfleet United v Aldershot Town
An Aldershot Town fan directed racist slurs towards Ebbsfleet United player Ebou Adams during the match.
26 August 2018 – Belgian Premier League: Club Brugge v RSC Anderlecht
Video footage emerged of Club Brugge supporters chanting an anti-semitic song.
27 August 2018 – The Finnish Second Division: Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat v Ekenäs IF
Ekenäs IF player Jonathan Jäntti racially abused a Kotkan striker Jean da Silva during the match.
29 August 2018 – UEFA Champions League: RB Salzburg v FK Crvena Zvezda
A group of FK Crvena Zvezda fans displayed a far right flag before start of the match.

31 August 2018 - UEFA Europa League: FC Midtjylland v Malmö FF
A group of FC Midtjylland fans unveiled a racist banner during the match against Malmö FF.
Sanctions
Football Union of Russia Disciplinary Committee: Lokomotiv Moscow
The Football Union of Russia have fined Lokomotiv Moscow 50,000 RUB after their fans directed monkey chants towards CSKA Moscow player Vitinho during the Russian Super Cup match played on 27 July 2018.
Chinese Football Association: Zhang Li
The Chinese Football Association has fined Changchun Yatai player Zhang Li 42,000 RMB (€5300) and suspended him for six matches after he racially abused Shanghai Shenhua player Demba Ba on the 4 August 2018.
Ecuadorian Football Federation Disciplinary Committee: LDU Quito
LDU Quito were fined 500 USD after a group of their fans racially abused S.D. Aucas players during the Ecuadorian Serie A match played on 13th August 2018.
Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB): VVV Venlo fan
The KNVB have banned a VVV Venlo fan from entering football stadiums for one year after he directed monkey chants towards Ajax players during the match played on the 18thAugust 2018.
UEFA: FK Crvena Zvezda
FK Crvena Zvezda were fined €72,000 and sanctioned with a one match behind closed doors and a suspended sanction activated after a large group of FK Crvena Zvezda fans glorified leaders of the Chetnik movement and war criminal Rakto Mladic during the match against FK Sūduva played on the 24 July 2018.
UEFA: Levski Sofia
Levski Sofia will play their next two home matches in European competition behind closed doors and were fined €40,000 after a group of fans sang racist chants during the match against FC Vaduz played on the 17thJuly 2018.
UEFA: Olympique Lyon
Olympique Lyon were fined €100,000 and will play their next UEFA competition match behind closed doors with a second home match being place on a probationary period of two years. The sanction comes after a black Lyon fan was physically assaulted and a neo-Nazi banner displayed during the match against CSKA Moscow on the 15 March 2018.
