International Fans V Homophobia conference
The Fare network and the Football v Homophobia campaign announce an international fans conference on homophobia and the LGBT presence in football.
The conference will take place in Manchester on Saturday 17th August 2013 and bring together fans and campaigners to look at issues of discrimination against LGBT people in football and those initiatives which celebrate the involvement of LGBT fans.
A speaker announcement will follow in the next few weeks.
Objectives
We want to:
> Bring together football fans in a united stand against homophobia and transphobia
> Celebrate the achievements of LGBT supporters clubs
> Share opportunities and resources for working together
> Set out an agenda for campaigning on equality for LGBT people in football
Technical information
The conference is for one day, there will be a welcome programme on Friday 16 August.
Workshop sessions will cover issues such as ‘Education or Regulation – Affecting Culture Change in Football’, ‘Transphobia & the Experience of Transgender Fans’ and ‘The Role of LGBT Fans Groups’.
Speakers will include representatives from fans groups throughout Europe, players, administrators and campaigners.
The conference will be in English and translated in German.
Travel and Accommodation bursaries
Fare can offer a (maximum) €250 bursary for travel. For all of those receiving a bursary we will also offer accommodation, which is likely to be in good student accommodation in central Manchester. The deadline for bursaries is 15 July.
Bursaries are available to all unfunded groups travelling from outside of the UK to send one representative. The bursaries are limited and be given according to the criteria on the form.
