The Fare roundtable event "Inclusion and respect is a right" on ethnic minority women in football took place this week in Berlin (30 May 2018).
The event brought together voices from across Europe to discuss the role football can play in supporting the social development and personal empowerment of ethnic minority women. It was held in partnership with DISCOVER FOOTBALL, and provided an opportunity to plan future activities and develop a networking platform for those in attendance to move forward and help drive inclusion.
Topics of discussion included how football can help offer greater visibility to ethnic minority women and whether and how it can help overcome social exclusion. The role of governing bodies in providing leadership opportunities to help develop talented ethnic minority women was also on the agenda. Successful ethnic minority women in football were also highlighted and celebrated.
Refugee women, policy and governance and funding opportunities to help refugee women in football were additional themes of the roundtable.
FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samoura was among those to contribute to the event, broadcasting a powerful message of support to open the roundtable ahead of a series of lively debates and discussions.
The roundtable was organised as part of Fare's INSPIRE project, funded by the European Commission. You can find further information about the project here.
