The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during March 2014. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 March 2014 – Greek Superleague: Aris FC v OFI Crete
A group of ARIS fans racially abused OFI’s Ivorian defender Marco Zoro.

The player interrupted the game to report the abuse to the referee and was shown a yellow card.

01 March 2014 – Irish U-15 National Cup: Swilly Rovers v Castlebar Celtic
Castlebar Celtic Thierry Baba was racially abused by a group of Swilly fans.

The club was fined €1,000 and ordered to play this season’s Schoolboys Football Association of Ireland (SFAI) National Cups at a neutral venue.

02 March 2014 - Greek Superleague: Olympiacos v Panathinaikos
A group of Olympiacos fans racially abused Panathinaikos’ Nigerian midfielder Abdul Ajagun.

02 March 2014 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Legia Warsaw v Jagiellonia Bialystok
A group of Legia fans racially abused Jagiellonia’s Italian-Nigerian born player Ugochukwu Ukah.

04 March 2014 – Belgium: Omar Rahou
Belgium futsal player Omar Rahou has been banned for ten UEFA games for making the "quenelle" gesture during a UEFA Futsal EURO 2014 match between Belgium and Romania on 28 January 2014.

05 March 2014 – Brazilian Gaúcho state Championship: Esportivo v Veranópolis
Fans of Esportivo racially abused the match referee Márcio Chagas and vandalised his car.

The state FA fined Esportivo €10,130, ordered the club to play six games behind closed doors and stripped nine points, which made the club drop to the second division of the Rio Grande do Sul state championship.

06 March 2014 – Brazilian Paulista state Championship: Mogi Mirim v Santos
A group of Mogi Mirim fans racially abused Santos midfielder Arouca during a post-match interview, while the player was still on the pitch.

Mogi Mirim have been fined €15,140 by the Brazilian FA and its stadium has been suspended for the period of investigation. The club appealed the fine, but the stadium will remain closed pending the appeal’s decision.

08 March 2013 – Australian A-League: Sydney FC v Western Sydney
Western Sydney Brendon Santalab allegedly racially and religiously abused Sydney FC Iraqi midfielder Ali Abbas.

Brendon Santalab was issued a disciplinary notice and ordered to face a Football Federation Australia tribunal to answer the allegations.

The Football Federation Australia (FFA) has since dismissed the allegations of racial abuse, citing a lack of evidence.

08 March 2014 – Japanese J-League: Urawa Red Diamonds v Sagan Tosu
Fans of Urawa Red Diamonds displayed a nationalist banner reading 'Japanese Only'.

The Japanese League ordered the club to play one game behind closed doors.

08 March 2014 – English League One: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Walsall
A group of Walsall fans racially abused Wanderers players Carl Ikeme and George Elokobi.

Both players reported the abuse to Wanderers’ officials and a complaint was filled and sent to the Football Association (FA). The FA found they could not take action because of a lack of evidence.

08 March 2014 – Bulgarian A Football Group: CSKA Sofia v Levski Sofia
CSKA club officials filed a complaint against Levski player Gadzhev, who allegedly racially abused CSKA player Kossoko, after the two were sent off the pitch for non-sporting behaviour.

09 March 2014 – Brazilian Paulista Championship: Corinthians v São Paulo
A group of Corinthian fans shouted homophobic abuse to São Paulo's goalkeeper Rogério Ceni.

Three complaints on the incident were taken to court, but São Paulo's Court of Sports Justice dismissed the allegations of homophobia considering the word non-offensive.

09 March 2014 – Italian Serie A: Juventus v Fiorentina
A group of Juventus fans standing in Curva Sud shouted anti-Semitic slurs during the match against Fiorentina.

11 March 2014 – UEFA Champions League: Bayern München v Arsenal
A group of Bayern fans displayed a homophobic banner with a caricature on Mesut Özil and text reading 'Gay Gunners'.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action. Bayern were fined €10,000 and ordered to close one section of the stadium for the next UEFA competitions match.

11 March 2014 – FIFA U19 Youth Friendlies: Bosnia & Herzegovina v Serbia
A group of Serbian fans chant nationalist and xenophobic abuse targeting the people of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Details of the incident were passed to FIFA for action.

14 March 2014 – Greece: Efthalia Mitsi
Greek referee Efthalia Mitsi has filed a complaint against the Greek Football Association (HFF) of gender-based discrimination.

The complaint is based on the fact that Mitsi has not been appointed to the roster of referees for 2013/14 season despite excelling all FIFA tests.

17 March 2014 – Israeli Ligat HaAl: Hapoel Tel-Aviv v Maccabi Tel Aviv
A group of Hapoel Tel Aviv fans unravelled an anti-Semitic banner aimed at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Hapoel were sanctioned with a partial stadium closure for the next home match.

The three fans responsible for displaying the banner were ejected from the stadium straight after the incident and had their season tickets cancelled.

17 March 2014 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Cracovia Krakow v Jagiellonia Bialystok
A group of Cracovia fans racially abused Jagiellonia’s Italian-Nigerian born player Ugochukwu Ukah.

19 March 2014 – CONCACAF Champions League: Deportivo Toluca FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes
A group of Toluca fans allegedly racially abused several San Jose players, including the Trinidadian footballer Cato Cordell.

19 March 2014 – Wales: Abe Dobson
The Welsh Football Association (FAW) has suspended Prestatyn's Chris Marsden after their investigation concluded he racially abused Gap Connah's Quay player Abe Dobson during the U-19 match between the two sides on 4 February 2014.

The player has since been released from his club.

20 March 2014 – Club Atlético de Madrid Youth
Club Atlético de Madrid Youth were sanctioned with a partial stadium closure at their next UEFA Youth League home match and fined €10,000 for improper conduct of the team and racist behaviour of their supporters during a match against Manchester City FC Youth on 26 February 2014.

22 March 2014 – Liga MX Clausura: León v Cruz Azul
León Colombian player Eisner Loboa was racially abused by a group of Cruz Azul supporters during the first half of the match.

The supporters made monkey chants every time the player touched the ball.

23 March 2014 – English Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton
A 57 year-old Southampton fan was arrested for anti-Semitic abuse.

The supporter was taken into custody and subsequently bailed until 19 May, pending further investigation.

29 March 2014 – La Liga BBVA: Espanyol v Barcelona
Media reports suggest a group of Espanyol fans directed monkey chants against Barcelona's Dani Alves and Neymar and threw banana skins on to the pitch.
