The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during December 2014. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

04 December 2014 – Russian Premier League: Spartak Moscow v FC Rostov

FC Rostov Gabonese midfielder Guelor Kanga was racially abused by a group of Spartak Moscow fans.

The Russian Football Federation have sanctioned the player with a three-match ban and a €660 fine for showing an offensive gesture to the fans, in reaction to the abuse.

Spartak have not been sanctioned for its fans' behaviour.

05 December 2014 – English Football Championship: Wigan FC Dave Whelan

Wigan FC owner Dave Whelan made xenophobic comments about Jewish and Chinese people.

The Football Association sanctioned Whelan with a six-week ban and a €65,160 fine.

07 December 2014 – Ukrainian Premier League: Chornomorets Odesa v Karpaty Lviv

A group of Chornomorets fans displayed several far-right symbols.

09 December 2014 – UEFA Champions League: Juventus Football Club v Club Atlético de Madrid

A group of Atlético de Madrid fans performed Nazi salutes.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

11 December 2014 – UEFA Europa League: FC Steaua Bucureşti v FC Dynamo Kyiv

A group of Steaua Bucureşti supporters displayed a banner featuring far-right symbols.

15 December 2014 – Australian Western Australia State League: Mandurah City FC President Peter Rowe

Mandurah City FC President Peter Rowe made Islamophobic comments in a Facebook conversation.

16 December 2014 – England, Sanction: Middlesborough fan

The Football Association have imposed a three-year ban, from every football ground in England and Wales, to Julie Phillips, a Middlesborough fan, who ripped up pages of the Koran during a match in December 2013.

16 December 2014 – Twitter: Thierry Henry

Former France international Thierry Henry was racially abused on Twitter by a false Football Association of Ireland account.

17 December 2014 – English League One: Gillingham fan

The Football Association have imposed a three-year ban to the Gillingham fan Tony Edward for racially abusing the Peterborough midfielder Jermaine Anderson in September.

18 December 2014 – Premier League: Mario Balotelli

The Football Association sanctioned the Manchester United player Mario Balotelli with a one-match ban and a €32,400 fine over an anti-Semitic post on Instagram.

20 December 2014 – English Football League Championship: Blackpool FC Chairman Karl Oyston

Blackpool FC Chairman Karl Oyston allegedly sent offensive text messages to a supporter.

21 December 2014 - Portuguese Segunda Liga: Freamunde v Desportivo de Chaves

A group of Desportivo de Chaves fans allegedly racially abused Freamunde Ivorian player Dally Gbale.

The player was sent off following a controversial reaction to the abuse.

31 December 2014 - Chilean Primera División: Deportes Iquique

The Chilean Football Association have ordered Deportes Iquique to play to matches behind closed doors for fans’ racism.

31 December 2014 - English Premier League: Wigan chairman Dave Whelan

The Football Association have banned Wigan chairman Dave Whelan for six weeks and fined him £50,000 over his remarks on Jewish and Chinese people.
