The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during September 2017. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 September 2017 - FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Romania v Armenia

A section of the Romanian supporters unveiled an Islamophobic banner during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

01 September 2017 - FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Czech Republic v Germany

Around 200 German fans were heard shouting “Sieg Heil” more than once during the national anthems and during the two minutes silence organised out of respect for two deceased Czech officials.

01 September 2017 - FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Mexico v Panama

A group of Mexican fans chanted homophobic slurs during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

02 September – FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Serbia v Moldova

A group of Moldovan fans displayed a far-right banner during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

02 September – FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Ukraine v Turkey

A group of Ukrainian fans displayed a far-right banner during the match.

03 September 2017 – FIFA World Cup: Hungary v Portugal

A group of Hungary fans made several homophobic chants during the match.

04 September 2017 – FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Montenegro v Romania

A group of Romania fans displayed a far-right banner during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

05 September 2017 – FYR Macedonia v Albania

A group of Albanian fans sang nationalist chants during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

05 September 2017 – FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Panama v Trinidad & Tobago

A group of Panama fans made homophobic chants during the match.

05 September 2017 – FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Argentina v Venezuela

A group of Argentina fans chanted several sexist and misogynist insults during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

05 September 2017 - FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Bolivia v Chile

A group of Chile fans made several homophobic and misogynist chants during the match.

A report was sent to FIFA for action.

05 September 2017 – FIFA World Cup Qualifier – Ecuador v Peru

Groups of supporters from both Ecuador and Peru chanted homophobic insults during the match.

11 September 2017 - English Premier League: Leicester City v Chelsea FC

Several Chelsea fans were heard singing a song about striker Alvaro Morata with anti-Semitic references.

13 September 2017 – UEFA Champions League: NK Maribor v Spartak Moscow

Two Spartak Moscow fans displayed neo-Nazi symbols; one performed a Nazi salute whilst the other was wearing a visible 88 t-shirt.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

14 September 2017 - Spanish La Liga: Real Madrid v Levante

Levante’s Jefferson Lerma has stated that Real Madrid right back Dani Carvajal made a racist comment towards him during the match. The incident was caught on camera by Spanish television.

14 September 2017 – Beitar Jerusalem FC: Eli Cohen

Club advisor for Beitar Jerusalem FC Eli Cohen resigned after he admitted he would not sign any Muslim players and later refused to apologise for making this comment.

15 September 2017: Conservative MP: Douglas Ross

Assistant referee and Conservative MP Douglas Ross made xenophobic comments about Roma and travellers. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) was criticized for taking no action against the assistant referee.

15 September 2017 - The Dutch Eerste Divisie: Helmond Sport v Jong Ajax

A group of Helmond Sport fans attacked the family of Jong Ajax player Mees De Wit after the match. The incident is being treated as racially motivated.

16 September 2017 - Spanish La Liga: Atlético Madrid v Málaga

A section of Atlético Madrid fans directed homophobic chants towards Málaga manger José Miguel González Martín del Campo, known as Michel.

17 September 2017 - English Football League One: Bradford City v Rotherham

A Bradford City fan racially abused Rotherham player Jonson Clarke-Harris during the match.

20 September 2017 - England's women's manager: Mark Sampson

England Women’s football manager Mark Sampson resigns over racist comments made to players Eniola Aluko and Drew Spence.

21 September 2017 - Austrian Cup: Union Gurten v SCR Altach

Altach’s Ghanian striker Bernard Tekpetey was subjected to monkey chants from a section of Union Gurten fans.

25 September 2017 - Russian Professional Football League: FC Torpedo Moscow v FC Ararat

A group of Torpedo fans used racist language towards the opposition who have a large Armenian diaspora following.

26 September 2017 - UEFA Champions League: FC Spartak Moscow v Liverpool FC

Sadio Mané was racially abused during the Champions League match in Moscow by a section of the Spartak Moscow crowd.

26 September 2017 - UEFA Youth League: FC Spartak Moscow v Liverpool FC

Bobby Adekanye was subjected to racist chanting when he came on as a substitution for Liverpool and when he received the ball from a section of the Spartak Moscow support.

30 September 2017 – Copa Chile: Audax Italiano v Universidad de Chile

A group of fans from Universidad de Chile created sexist and misogynist images and displayed them in the visiting fans bar area.

YouTube: UEFA Europa League: Vittorul Constanta v RB Salzburg

RB Salzburg’s Paulo Miranda got a tattoo on his chest of black and white hands shaking with a star background inscribed “Against Racism” after receiving racial abuse during the match played on the 17^th August.

UEFA: FC Spartak Moscow

FC Spartak Moscow have been banned from selling tickets to their next UEFA competition away fixture after the discriminatory incidents of fans against NK Maribor played on the 13^th September and were fined €60,000.

UEFA: HNK Rijeka

HNK Rijeka have been fined €21,000 and must close the North stand of their stadium for their next UEFA competition match due to the discriminatory before of fans during the match against Olympiacos played on the 22^nd August.

United Kingdom Magistrates Court – Leicester City fan

Leicester City fan Jason Holmes was fined £300 after directing homophobic abuse towards Brighton & Hove Albion fans when both teams met on 19 August.
