The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during May 2017. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

06 May 2017 – Chinese Super League: Shanghai East Asia v Guizhou Zhicheng

Shanghai East Asia player Hulk allegedly racially attacked Guizhou Zhicheng assistant.

06 May 2017 – Spanish La Liga: Atlético Madrid v SD Eibar

500 fans of the ultra group Fondo Sur of Atlético Madrid chanted sexist and misogynist chants directed at other Atlético Madrid fans, including Frente Atlético.

The incident took place at minute 27 and was repeated at minute 72 and 78 of the match.

07 May 2017 – RAI: Mehdi Benatia

Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia was racially abused live on air during a live post-match television interview with Italian broadcaster RAI.

The Italian broadcaster apologised for the incident.

10 May 2017 – Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup final: NK Široki Brijeg v FK Sarajevo

NK Siroki Brijeg fans chanted far-right slogans and religious discriminatory abuse.

13 May 2017 – Bulgarian Vtora Profesionalna Liga: Ludogorets Razgard B v Oborishte

Oborishte Brazilian player Elidiano Marques was subject to racist by Ludogorets player Svetoslav Dyakov.

14 May 2017 – Argentine Primera División: Independiente v Racing Club

Fans of Independiente made an effigy of murdered women with Racing jersey and placed on a traffic light of Buenos Aires. It read ‘Racing raped whore’.

14 May 2017 – German 2. Bundesliga: Karlsruher v Dynamo

Ahead of the match, Dynamo Dresden fans chanted racist slur directed at a black cyclist.

17 May 2017 – Macedonian Cup Final: Shkendija v Pelister

Referee Aleksandar Stavrev stopped the match at minute 55 due to nationalist chants perpetrated by fans of both teams.

17 May 2017 – Spanish La Liga: Real Club Celta de Vigo v Real Madrid

Around 200 fans of the ultra groups of Celta de Vigo, Irmandiños and Tropas Breogan, chanted sexist remarks at Real Madrid. The same group also directed the sexist remark to Real Madrid player Sergio Ramos.

21 May 2017 – Spanish La Liga: FC Barcelona v SD Eibar

Around 800 members of FC Barcelona ultra groups FCB Supporters and Almogavers chanted several times sexist remarks directed at SD Eibar.

The same group of fans chanted a homophobic remarks directed at CF Malaga coach José Miguel González Martín del Campo.

A report was sent from La Liga to the Spanish FA for action.

The head of the Polish Football Association Zbigniew Boniek used a derogatory term for women to the Polish Ekstraklasa (First Division) spokesperson Karolina Hytrek-Prosiecka.

Sanctions

Asian Football Confederation: Nejmeh SC

Asian Football Confederation fined Lebanese club Nejmeh SC 20,000 USD after their home supporters chanted discriminatory phrases.

Asian Football Confederation: Guangzhou Evergrande

The Disciplinary Committee of the AFC sanctioned Guangzhou Evergrande to play two AFC club home matches without spectators and to pay a 22,500 USD fine. Away fans displayed a banner depicting a discriminatory message relating to national origin and political opinion.

Asian Football Confederation: Kawasaki Frontale

Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale has received a one-year suspended match behind closed doors for their fans discriminatory behavior.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Association: NK Široki Brijeg

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Association sanctioned the NK Široki Brijeg with 7 matches behind closed doors and a fine over their fans' far-right slogans and religious discriminatory abuse at a match on 10 May.
