The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during February 2016. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently in place at UEFA Champions and Europa League and FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia preliminary competition to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

03 February 2016 – Brazilian women’s football championship: Foz Cataratas v Pinheirense

A Foz Cataratas player racially abused Pinheirense striker Janaína.

03 February 2016 – Italian Serie A: Lazio v Napoli

A group of Lazio fans racially abused Napoli Senegalese player Kalidou Koulibaly.

The match was suspended for three minutes due to the abuse.

04 February 2016 – French Ligue 1: Monaco

Monaco uploaded a video on Twitter where they referred to their new signing Jamerson in a discriminatory manner.

06 February 2016 – Portuguese Segunda Liga: Portimonense v Sporting B

Portimonense manager José Augusto racially abused Sporting B player Mama Baldé.

07 February 2016 – Dutch Eredivisie: Ajax v Feyenoord

An Ajax fan was caught pretending to lynch Feyenoord goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer.

07 February 2016 – English Premier League: Chelsea FC v Manchester United

Unofficial retailers were witnessed selling offensive t-shirts at Stamford Brige ahead of the Chelsea v Manchester United encounter.

One of the t-shirts on sale depicted Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane wearing the garb of a Hasidic Jew and with an offensive slogan accompanying it.

Chelsea promised to take action.

07 February 2016 – Spanish La Liga: Real Betis Balompié SAD v Valencia CF SAD

Around 400 of Betis fans chanted discriminatory slurs against Valencia CF.

A report of the incident was sent by La Liga to the Spanish FA Disciplinary Committee.

13 February 2016 – Spanish La Liga: RC Deportivo de La Coruña SAD v Real Betis Balompié SAD

Around 600 of RC Deportivo de La Coruña fans chanted discriminatory slurs against Betis.

A report of the incident was sent by La Liga to the Competition Committee.

14 February 2016 - Dutch Eredivisie: FC Groningen v Ajax

A FC Groningen fan performed a Nazi salute directed at an Ajax fan.

14 February 2016 - Dutch Eerste Divisie: RKC Waalwijk

RKC Waalwijk dispensed the traditional child mascots in favour of models in lingerie accompanying the players.

15 February 2016 – Brazilian Série A: Atlético MG

Atlético MG accused of sexism following presentation of new kit by women in bikini and lingerie.

17 February 2016 – Brazilian Campeonato Paulista C: São Paulo v Itapirense

The match referee Rafael Araújo Pereira was racially abused by fans.

The incident was included in the match report.

16 February 2016 – Copa Libertadores: Cobresal

Cobresal captain Johan Fuentes made racist comments towards the Corinthians team ahead of their Copa Libertadores encounter.

20 February 2016 – English Conference Premier: FC Halifax Town v Grimsby Town

A fan of Halifax racially abused Grimsby Town player Toto Nsiala in three different occasions.

Neither club nor player lodged an official complaint, but West Yorkshire Police confirmed they are looking into the incident.

21 February 2016 – Croatian Prva Liga: GNK Dinamo v HNK Rijeka

Members of GNK Dinamo fan group Bad Blue Boys Fan Club (BBB) sang homophobic and xenophobic abuse.

A group of supporters of Rijeka ultra group Armada sang homophobic and anti-Roma songs.

21 February 2016 – English Garforth Junior Football League: Tingley Athletic v Chapeltown Junior FC

A number of Tingley Athletic players allegedly racially abused under-13 Chapeltown Junior FC players.

The police have started initial enquires on the allegations.

21 February 2016 – Silvio Berlusconi

Former Italian President Silvio Berlusconi made racist remarks towards Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

24 February 2016 – Copa Libertadores: Racing Club v Bolívar

A group of Racing supporters chanted xenophobic songs against Bolivians and Paraguayans.

25 February 2016 – Tottenham Hotspur fans: David Guetta

Italian Jewish sports journalist David Guetta was subjected to anti-Semitic chants from Tottenham Hotspur fans after the end of the UEFA Europa League match between Tottenham and Fiorentina.

25 February 2016 ­– UEFA Europa League: Rapid Wien v Valencia

Rapid Wien home supporters displayed several offensive banners containing sexist language reading ‘Puta Valencia’ (ENG: Whore Valencia) and ‘Todo el mundo debe conocer Damiá Vidagany y Julián Suescum, eso son hijos de putas’, (ENG: ‘The world should know of Damiá Vidagany and Julián Suescum, they are sons of bitches’).

26 February 2016 – Scottish Premier League: Hearts v Kilmarnock

A Hearts fan made a xenophobic comment towards Kilmarnock Northern Ireland player Magennis.

The player reported the incident to Police Scotland.

28 February 2016 – Brazilian Pernambucano Championship: Sport v Naútico

A fan of Naútico repeatedly racially abused Sport midfielder Francisco Rithely.

The police arrested the fan at the stadium.

After the match club reported the incident to the police.

28 February 2016 – Scottish Premiership: Hearts v Kilmarnock FC

Kilmarnock FC player Josh Magennis subjected to xenophobic by an alleged Hearts fan.

29 February 2016 – English Vanarama National League North: Worcester City v Boston United

A Boston United supporter racially abused Worcester City Wayne Thomas.

The police are investigating the incident.

13 February 2016 – Twitter: Paris Saint-German Serge Aurier

Paris Saint-German defender Serge Aurier posted a Periscope interview in which he call his manger Laurent Blanc a homophobic slur.

15 February 2016 – Twitter: BT Sport presenter Lynsey Hipgrave

English sport presenter Lynsey Hipgrave was subjected to sexist abuse on social media after criticising Lionel Messi and Luiz Suárez.

Sanctions

UEFA: Dynamo Kiev

UEFA Appeals Body have reduced Dynamo Kiev three-match ban to one match following the club’s appeal to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

The Dynamo Kiev ban was imposed by UEFA in November 2015 as punishment for racist behaviour, crowd disturbances and blocked stairways by Dynamo fans during their group game against Chelsea on October 20.

Cumbria Police: Carlisle fan

Cumbria Police have arrested a 15-year-old male following an investigation into allegations of racism towards players at the FA Cup Everton v Carlisle match.

The teenager was released on bail until 9 March 2016.

A second arrest was made days after of an 18-year-old from Silloth, who was also released on bail pending and further inquires.

Serie A: Lazio

Serie A have fined Lazio €50,000 and ordered the club the close their Curva Nord for two matches following fans racist abuse against Napoli Senegalese player Kalidou Koulibaly on 03 February.

Paris Saint-Germain: Serge Aurier

Paris Saint-Germain provisionally suspended the club’s defender Serge Aurier after he made homophobic comments towards the team manager Laurent Blanc.

Police: FC Groningen fan

A FC Groningen fan was arrested for performing a Nazi salute at an Ajax fan and ordered to pay a €525 fine.

Police Scotland: Stranraer v Celtic

Police Scotland made five arrests over incidents including sectarian chanting during the Stranraer v Celtic Scottish cup-tie on 10 January.
