Incidents list reported to Fare during December 2015

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during December 2015. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

03 December 2015 – Romanian Liga 1: Dinamo Bucharest v CSMS Iași

Dinamo fans chanted xenophobic anti-Hungarian chants. The referee stopped the match for 10 minutes. At the post match press conference Dinamo coach Mircea Rednic said he totally agrees with what the fans chanted.

03 December 2015 – Mexican Liga MX Torneo Apertura: América v Pumas

Pumas player Darío Verón allegedly racially abused América Colombian player Carlos Quintero by calling him ‘monkey’.

The Mexican Football Association opened an investigation but found no sufficient evidence of the incident.

06 December 2015 – Peruvian Descentralizado Play Off: FBC Melgar v Real Garcilaso

A group of FBC Melgar fans racially abused Garcilaso Peruvian player Jhoel Herrera.

FBC Melgar sent a report of the incident to Peru’s Ombudsman office.

09 December 2015 – Portuguese II Liga: Leixões v Oriental

A group of Leixões fans allegedly chanted racist slurs.

09 December 2015 - Peruvian Descentralizado Play Off: Real Garcilaso v FBC Melgar

FBC Melgar Colombian forward Johnnier Montaño was subjected to racist abuse moments before entering the pitch by a group of home team fans.

FBC Melgar sent a report of the incident to Peru’s Ombudsman office.

12 December 2015 – Croatian First League: HNK Hadjuk v RNK Split

HNK Hadjuk ultra group Torcida sang xenophobic and homophobic chants.

12 December 2015 – English Championship: Derby County v Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton and Hove Albion Connor Goldson was racially abused by a Derby County fan while watching the match from the stands.

Derby County referred the allegations to the police.

12 December 2015 – Italian Umbria youth championship: Cascia v l’Arrone

A l’Arrone player racially abused a player of Cascia.

The 10 year-old player was sent off and the incident included in the match report.

12 December 2015 – Italian Serie A: Genoa v Bologna

Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara was allegedly racially abused by a group of Genoa fans.

12 December 2015 – Peruvian friendly: Alianza Lima v Universitario

Alianza Lima Colombian player Carlos Preciado was subjected to racist slurs by Universitario fans.

The match was interrupted to halt the abuse.

13 December 2015 – Croatian First League: HNK Rijeka v NK Slaven Belupo

HNK Rijeka ultra group Armada chanted homophobic slurs during different moments of the match.

17 December 2017 – Colombia: Atlético Junior de Barranquilla

Ombudsman’s Office of Colombia investigate Atlético Junior de Barranquilla over allegations of racism towards cheerleader.

19 December 2015 – English Premier League: Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur

Three Southampton fans chanted anti-Semitic abuse and made Nazi salutes at rival supporters.

20 December 2015 – Italian Serie A: Atalanta v SSC Napoli

Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina reported on Twitter he heard racist chants from a group of Atalanta fans.

28 December 2015 – English League One: Bradford City v Sheffield United

A group of Sheffield United fans sang Islamophobic songs against Bradford supporters.

Both the Football Association and Sheffield United are to investigate the claims.

Sheffield United officials have handed police a dossier of information of the incident.

28 December 2015 – Scottish Championship: Rangers v Hibernian

Rangers fans heard singing sectarian chants.

Scottish Professional League board to discuss the incident on 19 January 2016.

Social media

14 December 2015 – Mexico: Tigres UANL Israel Jimenez and Nahuel Guzman

Tigres UANL Israel Jimenez and Nahuel Guzman were subjected to homophobic abuse on social media after celebrating a league win with a kiss.

28 December 2015 – Instagram: FC Barcelona Neymar

FC Barcelona player Neymar was subjected to racist abuse on Instagram by a user who reposted a picture of the Real Madrid player James Rodriguez with a monkey saying the latter was the Brazilian player.

Sanctions

Italian Umbria youth championship: Cascia v l’Arrone

The Cascia v l’Arrone match referee handed a 10-day ban to the l’Arrone player who racially abused a Cascia player at the two teams encounter on 12 December 2015.

Peruvian Football Sports Association (ADFP): FBC Melgar

The Peruvian Football Sports Association, responsible for the country’s professional football championships, ordered FBC Melgar a partial stadium closure at the Descentralizado final match over fans’ racism at a match against Real Garcilaso on 06 December 2015.

The club was also ordered to pay a €13,515 fine.

Romanian Liga 1: Dinamo Bucharest v CSMS Iași

Romanian Professional Football League fined Dinamo €2,200 Eur over fans' discrimination at a Romania Liga 1 match on 03 December 2015.

Turkish Football Federation

An Istanbul court ordered the Turkish Football Federation to pay a 7.200€ compensation to a referee after it revoked his license in 2009 on the grounds he was gay.
