The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during April 2016. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.
All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently in place at UEFA Champions and Europa League and FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia preliminary competition to monitor discriminatory behaviour.
Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

02 April 2016 – Indian I-League Kolkata Derby: East Bengal v Mohun Bagan
East Bengal defender Arnab Mondal allegedly racially abused Mohun Bagan Trinidad and Tobago striker Cornell Glen.
02 April 2016 – Spanish La Liga: FC Barcelona v Real Madrid
A group of FC Barcelona fans chanted homophobic insults to Real Madrid striker Portuguese during the minute's silence held for Johan Cruyff.
03 April 2016 – Spanish Primera Regional Grupo 5: C.P. Losareño v la A.D. Serradilla Es Monfragüe
A.D. Serradilla palyers made homophobic remarks against the referee.
03 April 2016 – Spanish Cuarta Catalana: Montañesa C.F. “B” v Besos AT. C.F.
The match referee was victim of racist abuse perpetrated by fans and Besos AT players.
09 April 2016 – Brazilian Campeonato Potiguar 2016: Potiguar de Mossoró v Alecrim
Alecrim goalkeeper Messi was subjected to homophobic slurs by a group of Mossoró fans.
09 April 2016 – United States United Soccer League: San Antonio FC v Swope Park
A section of San Antonio FC fans chanted homophobic slurs every time the goalkeeper of the visiting team took a goal kick.
10 April 2016 – Slovenian SNL: Olimpija NK v Zavrč
Olimpija Ljubljana coach Marko Nikolic made a racist comment against his own player Blessing Eleke.
10 April 2016 – Uruguayan Primera División: Defensor Sporting v Nacional
Defensor Sporting player Nicolás Olivera was allegedly subjected to racist abuse by the Nacional player Jorge Fucile.
11 April 2016 – Voetbal Inside: Johan Derksen
Dutch television football analyst Johan Derksen made racist comments directed at Moroccan players in Dutch football during the TV show Voetbal Inside.
16 April 2016 – Italian Serie A: Inter Milan v Napoli
A group of Intern Milan fans subjected Napoli Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly to racist chants.
16 April 2016 – Spanish La Liga: Real Club Celta de Vigo SAD v Real Bétis Balompié SAD
Groups of Celta de Vigo fans chanted repeated discriminatory slurs at Betis.
17 April 2016 – Brazilian Campeonato Catarinenese: Chapecoense v Joinville
Chapecoense masseur was subjected to sexist and racist chants from a group of Chapecoense fans.
18 April 2016 – Luís Figo
Former Portuguese international Luís Figo made sexist remarks directed at a Catalan female journalist.
20 April 2016 – Spanish La Liga: Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña v FC Barcelona
Around 300 of Deportivo de La Coruña ultra group Riazor Blues chanted homophobic and xenophobic slurs directed at Barcelona player Rafinha Alcántara.
An announcement was made on the tannoy system to stop the abuse.
20 April 2016 – Slovakian Super Liga: Slovan Bratislava v Spartak Trnava
A group of Bratislava fans displayed a far-right banner celebrating the 127th anniversary of Hitler.
24 April 2016 – Portuguese Primeira Liga: Rio Ave v Benfica
A group of Rio Ave fans made monkey chants directed at Benfica Renato Sanches.
26 April 2016 – Costa Rica Football Federation (Fedefútbol)
Fedefútbol accused of sexism after not nominating female referees to officiate Costa Rica top league matches.
26 April 2016 – UEFA Champions League: Manchester City v Real Madrid
Real Madrid player Luka Modrić directed sexist remarks at the match referee.
30 April 2016 – English Conference Premier: Barrow FC v Wrexham
A Dalton man is accused of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour and use of racially aggravated threatening words against Barrow PC Tony Johnson after the end of the match.

03 April 2016 – Instagram: AS Roma William Vainqueur
A 16 year-old teenager racially abused AS Roma French Player William Vainqueur on Instgaram.
13 April 2016 – Facebook: América Natal Pedro Ivo
A football fan made a racist comment direct at América Natal player Pedro Ivo on a Facebook post of the club.
24 April 2016 – Twitter: Alastair Campbell
Tony Blair’s spin-doctor Alastair Campbell allegedly made a racist comment on Twitter poiting ‘non-white faces’ at a Premier League football match.
Sanctions
Dutch prosecutor of professional football: Ajax
The Dutch Prosecutor of professional football ordered a €10,000 fine and the closure of the sections 424 and 425 of Ajax stadium for the lynching of Feyenoord goalkeeper Kenneth Veemer at a match in January.
Italian Sports Court: Pro Venezia Player
An Italian sports court handed a three-month ban to a Pro Venezia Player that made direct sexist comments at a female referee at a match in 2014.
Newcastle United: Jonas Gutierrez
Former Newcastle United Jonas Gutierrez won his discrimination case against Newcastle United after being frozen out of the first team squad, despite his recovery from cancer.
Serie A: Inter Milan
Serie A ordered Inter Milan a partial stadium closure and to pay €15,000 fine for their supporters' racist behavior a match against Napoli.
Slovenian Football Association: Olimpija Ljubljana coach Marko Nikolic
Slovenian FA banned Olimpija Ljubljana coach Marko Nikolic for seven games after racially abusing Olimpija’s player Blessing Eleke during a match in April 2016.
After the sanction Nikolic quit the job at Olimpija.
Ukraine Football Federation: FC Karpaty Lviv
The Football Federation of Ukraine has ordered the partial stadium closure for one match and a fine for their fans racism at a match against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in March 2016.
