Incidents list reported to Fare during April 2015
The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during April 2015. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.
All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.
Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.
01 April 2015 – Brazilian Gaúcho regional Championship: SC Internacional Porto Alegre v Ypiranga RS
SC Internacional player Fabrício dos Santos Silva was allegedly racially abused by a group of International fans.
Brazil Highest Court of Sports Justice said they would investigate the alleged abuse.
01 April 2015 – CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores: Corinthians v Danubio
Corinthians player Elias Mendes Trindade reported being the victim of racist abuse from Danubio player Cristian González, who allegedly called him a ‘monkey'.
05 April 2015 – Dutch Eredivisie: FC Utrecht v Ajax
A group of Utrech fans chanted anti-Semitic songs.
06 April 2015 – Dutch Eredivisie: FC Groningen v AZ Alkmaar
A group of AZ Alkmaar supporters chanted anti-Semitic songs.
07 April 2015 – CONCACAF Champions League: Liga Deportiva Alajuelense v Impact de Montreal
A group of Alajuelense fans racially abused Impact de Montreal players.
09 April 2015 – Russian Premier League: Arsenal Tula v Spartak Moscow
A group of Spartak Moscow fans displayed a banner featuring a Nazi symbol.
12 April 2015 – First Croatian Football League: NK Slaven Belupo v GNK Dinamo
Anti-Roma, xenophobic and nationalist chants were sang by a group of GNK Dinamo fans.
17 April 2015 – First Croatian Football League: Lokomotiva v GNK Dinamo
A group of GNK Dinamo supporters chanted far-right and homophobic chants.
19 April 2015 – First Croatian Football League: HNK Hajduk v NHK Rijeka
Different groups of fans of HNK Hadjuk sang xenophobic, homophobic and anti-Roma chants.
21 April 2015 - Bulgarian A Football Group: CSKA Sofia v Lokomotiv Sofia
CSKA Sofia Portuguese winger Toni Silva was racially abused by a group of the club’s fans.
25 April 2015 – Spanish La Liga: Espanyol v FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona Brazilian player Neymar was racially abused by a group of Espanyol supporters.
25 April 2015 – First Croatian Football League: NK Zadar v GNK Dinamo
A group of GNK Dinamo fans chanted anti-Roma and homophobic songs.
25 April 2015 – English Championship: Wigan v Wolverhampton
Wolverhampton fan group Punjabi Wolves were reportedly subjected to racist slurs performed by a group of Wigan fans.
30 April 2015 – Swiss Super League: Luzern v St. Gallen
A group of St. Gallen fans unfurled a banner paraphrasing a Nazi concentration camp slogan.
Social media
11 April 2015 – Peruvian Torneo del Inca: Real Garcilaso v César Vallejo
Real Garcilaso player Jhoel Herrera was racially abused by César Vallejo Colombian player Donald Millán. The player reported the incident on Twitter.
18 April 2015 – English FA Cup: Arsenal FC v Reading
Arsenal music band The Away Boyz performed a homophobic song before the match start in a pub and after published the video on the Internet.
Sanctions
CONCACAF: Liga Deportiva Alajuelense
CONCACAF have imposed a fined of an undisclosed amount to Alajuelense and ordered the Costa Rican club to play the next CONCACAF Champions League home match behind closed doors.
The decision consequently applies to the Champions League match against Impact de Montreal on 07 April 2015.
Russian Football Union: Spartak Moscow
The Russian Football Union have ordered Spartak to play two away matches with no guest fans, except women and children under 12 years old, for fans’ far-right display during a Premier League match against Arsenal Tula on 09 April 2015.
