A new set of grants has been launched by Fare to support the work of organisations in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Oceania to stimulate social change through football and develop expertise to tackle discrimination and exclusion.

A pool of $110,000 is available as part of a project between Fare and FIFA to address discrimination in football in the run up to the 2018 World Cup finals.

The grants will allow organisations to follow up on incidents and issues of discrimination in domestic and international football by developing debates, mechanisms of change and building capacity. At the same time, they are available for football for development initiatives to support social inclusion at a community level.

Piara Powar, Fare Executive Director, said: “As a universal language football provides a methodology of its own to tackle discrimination, promote empowerment and integration.

“We hope these grants will be used by organisations to across the globe to develop innovative ideas that create social change through football.”

The grants are spilt into three categories: for playing activities up to $1,000 grants are available; for sharing information grants of up to $2,500 are available; and for developing expertise and innovation there are grants of up to $5,000.

European organisations can apply in partnership with organisations in Africa, the Americas, Asia or Oceania and only if the grant is used in the country of origin of the partner organisation. The grants are only available for legally registered organisations.
