Play writer and artist Ahilan Ratnamohan is looking footballers of South-Asian heritage for his new performance 'Mercenary, The Qatar World Cup Project'.

The new performance consists of a theatre, dance and football show exploring migrant worker deaths in Qatar in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.

The production will be premiered at London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) in June 2018 and will after tour around other European festivals and theatres.

To reflect the stories and experiences of the workers, the new project is looking for footballers of South Asian heritage -  namely from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal - living in London with a specific skill-set. Performers should be elite or close to elite footballers, this could be field football, street football or futsal; have an understanding or movement outside of the football world is beneficial, such as dance, martial arts, parkour or free running; no previous acting experience is required.

Rehearsals and development of the piece will involve around eight week’s full-time work in the first half of 2018.

Ahilan has a unique creative process through which he works with footballers and movements inherent to football to create choreographies somewhere in between dance and sport. His last production was 'Michael Essien I want to play as you...' which was presented at LIFT in 2014.

An informal casting event for the piece will take place on Thursday the 7 December, from 6 to 9pm, at LIFT offices in Whitechapel.
