Fare LGBT members and international activists meet in Berlin
Activists from the Fare network came together for a meeting to discuss priorities for tackling LGBTIQ discrimination and inclusion in football on Saturday (13December).
The meeting was hosted by the Berlin based group Discover Football as part of their 5th anniversary celebrations and was facilitated by Pride Sports.
Other groups represented at the event were: the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF), Fußballfans gegen Homophobie (Germany), Chrzaszczyki (Poland), Russian LGBT Sport Federation (Russia), John Blankenstein Foundation (Netherlands), Paris Foot Gay (France), Les Dégommeuses (France), Bilitis Resource Centre Foundation (Bulgaria) and Seitenwechsel (Germany).
Future priorities
During the morning participants discussed priorities for the LGBIQ movement in areas of playing and participation, supporting, administration and governance, along with a discussion about the women’s game. The following themes emerged on top of the agenda:
- Zero Tolerance of LGBT-phobia
- Education initiatives
- Representation of LGBT people in football structures
- Making the community more visible
- Evaluation & knowledge transfer between countries/organisations
- Resourcing LGBT work
- Communication of good practice
During the afternoon, participants began to plan initiatives, which focused on key events including the Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada, UEFA EURO 2016 In France, FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
The group planned to meet again in Berlin in June 2015.
