Etnoliga shortlisted for international sport award

Fare Polish member Fundacja dal Wolności has been shortlisted for a Beyond Sport Global Awards for the project Etnoliga. Open Football – Open City, the biggest football cross-cultural event in Eastern Europe.

Etnoliga is a long-term social programme since 2005 that is based on activation of diverse communities through football. Every weekend there is a set of 10 matches for some 300 players from across the world. Men and women play together. Participants prepare contests, snacks and presentations. The scoring system rewards fair play and extra activities. Players themselves establish additional rules for the games.

The project has been selected as one of the 37 shortlisted organisations out of more than 300 applications received from 70 countries and 40 sports, with work focussing on topics such as health, gender, STEM education, equality, climate change, accessibility and inclusion, tech and employability.

The project will compete on the 'Sport for Sustainable Cities & Communities Award' category with others including Safe Spaces love.futbol, Northeast Kids of the New Zealand Hutt City Council and Regent Park Athletic Grounds of the United States MLSE Foundation.

Etnoliga matches different communities, develop a platform for the integration of newcomers, break stereotypes about migrants, women and the LGBT community, and increase interest in sport as social tool.

The 2017 Beyond Sport Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony on 26-27 July in New York.
