English fans discuss discrimination in football at diversity event
Fans For Diversity, a joint initiative run by Kick It Out and the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF), will host an evening focusing on supporters and issues of discrimination in football, on 22 October, as part of the Fare action weeks.
‘Football, Fans and anti-discrimination’, taking place at the Impact Hub in Kings Cross, London, will highlight football and anti-discrimination issues from the perspective of English supporters. The evening will consist of a topical debate and will provide networking opportunities for those in attendance, featuring a forum panel of supporters from across the country.
FSF Anwar Uddin and Billy Grant, Troy Townsend, Kick It Out Education and Development Manager, Pavinder Samra, member of the Punjabi Rams, Carrie Dunn, freelance journalist and Mark Doidge, Lecturer of Sociology and Sport at the University of Brighton, will all feature in the panel debate that will examine racism within football.
Anwar Uddin, Diversity and Campaigns Manager at the FSF, hopes the event can encourage discussion between supporters about diversity within the contemporary world of football.
“It promises to be a great night for ‘Football, Fans and anti-discrimination’. The idea of the event is to create a relaxed and informal environment where people can discuss discrimination and football in a positive and engaging manner.
“My role with the FSF and Kick It Out is to encourage more diversity in the sport, and the matchday crowd and events like this can help improve understanding amongst supporters when it comes to embracing difference.
“The night will be a fantastic opportunity to network with supporters and friends of both Kick It Out and the FSF and I highly recommend anyone passionate about the future of the game to be there.”
The FREE event starts at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 22 October, and is available for all football supporters to attend. To secure your place, RSVP via email to anwar.uddin@fsf.org.uk.
