EUROCLIO and the Fare network are looking for contributors to be part of a unique experience combining football and history to develop a toolkit which will bring football history to life in classrooms around Europe.

Football History for Social Inclusion (FINC) is a new European project in which participants will work to develop learning activities combining football and history, as part of an international team working on social inclusion and diversity.

The project builds on football’s power and potential as the most popular sport in the world, to appeal to young people and those marginalised in society. We are using football and history to educate and develop a sense of citizenship and belonging amongst young people.

FINC will help teachers, youth workers and coaches reach out to communities and explore diversity, migration, discrimination and equality using football and history as a tool. Our long-term vision is to place local history at the heart of the social responsibility activities of clubs, FAs, schools and others.

Your role

As a developer you will perform research, in collaboration with project partners, to create project materials.

This will be done by developing practices that support educators and youth workers. You will help to create and implement innovative teaching methods, engage people through cultural heritage and history, raise awareness on the role of learning in social inclusion across Europe.

Preference will be given to textbook authors, researchers, youth workers, trainers and history and citizenship educators at primary and secondary education levels. A working level of English is required.

The project will involve you taking part in four 3-day meetings (in Rotterdam in January 2019, in London in April 2019, in Frankfurt in September 2019 and in Bucharest in January 2020) as well as online and face-to-face work meetings. As a developer you will need to be motivated and passionate about joining a project that works to challenge growing inequalities.

Successful candidates will be contacted within two weeks of receipt of the applications. Successful candidates will be invited for the first group meeting taking place 1–3 February 2019 in Rotterdam. Travel and accommodation will be paid for by the project consortium.
