The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during November 2018. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.
All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.
Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 November 2018 – Spanish Third Division: San Cristóbal v Llagostera
A large group of fans from both teams directed sexist comments towards match officials Ainara Acevedo, Matilde Esteves and Ylenia Sánchez throughout the match. The sexism overshadowed the historical moment where all match day officials were female, a first for Spanish football.
01 November 2018 – Major League Soccer Playoff: Los Angeles FC v Real Salt Lake
Thousands of Los Angeles FC fans yelled the homophobic “puto” chant during the match.
03 November 2018 – English Championship: Middlesbrough v Stoke City
A group of Middlesbrough fans sang a sectarian song and directed racist slurs towards Stoke player James McClean at the end of the match.
03 November 2018 – Bill Hill Cup: Pelsall United FC v Real Aston FC
The non-league cup match was abandoned after Pelsall United players racially abused several Real Aston players, with midfielder Shaq Ajmal being physically attacked.
08 November 2018 – UEFA Europa League: Apollon Limassol v Eintracht Frankfurt
A group of Apollon Limassol fans performed Nazi salutes and directed racist slurs towards Eintracht Frankfurt’s black players during the match.
08 November 2018 – Paris Saint Germain
Paris Saint Germain have been accused of racial profiling after it emerged the club used ethnic origin as a factor when recruiting young players.
10 November 2018 – Australian A-League: Brisbane Roar v Western Sydney Wanderers
A Wanderers fan called Brisbane Roar’s Jamie Young a monkey.
11 November 2018 – Belgian First Division A: K.V. Kortrijk v Standard Liége
A group of Kortrijk fans racially abused Standard Liége players Christian Luyindama and Paul-José Mpoku during the match.
11 November 2018 – English Premier League: Manchester City
A Manchester City supporter made a racist comment towards the black CheekySport’s YouTuber Joel Beya.
12 November 2018 – Martin Hunter
Former Southampton Coach Martin Hunter has been accused of racism by former under 18s coach Paul Williams when the two worked alongside each other at the club.
17 November 2018 – UEFA Nations League: Serbia v Montenegro
A group of Serbia fans unveiled two far-right flags with symbols from the Chetnik movement and chanted the name of war criminal Rakto Mladic during the match.
A report was sent to UEFA for action.
18 November 2018 – UEFA Nations League: Greece v Estonia
A group of Greece fans displayed several neo-Nazi banners and performed Nazi salutes during the match. Another Greece fan was also caught burning a Turkish flag.

19 November 2018 – Afghan Football Federation (AFF)
Captain of the Afghan women’s team Shabnam Mobarez has resigned along with teammate Farkhunda Muhtajafter the AFF attempted to force the women into signing a contract where they would play for the national team unpaid and infringe their human rights.
23 November 2018 – Veronica Inside: Johan Derksen
Football Commentator Johan Derksen made homophobic comments on TV show Veronica Inside relating to a petition by the Royal Dutch Football Association to make football stadiums more gay-friendly.
23 November 2018 – FC Basel
FC Basel has been accused of sexism after the women’s team were not invited to club’s 125thanniversary gala dinner but sold raffle tickets at the event to fund their team.
24 November 2018 – The English FA Cup: Poole Town v Dorking Wanderers
A group of Poole Town fans directed homophobic slurs towards Dorking Wanderers players during the match.
24 November 2018 – Scottish Cup: Stenhousemuirv Falkirk
A group of Falkirk fans directed racist abuse towards their own player Dennon Lewis during the Scottish Cup match.
24 November 2018 – German Bundesliga: Schalke 04 v FC Nürnberg
A female Schalke fan was sexually harassed throughout the match by male supporters and “told to go home if she could not hack it”. The woman filed a complaint to local police.
25 November 2018 – Dutch Amateur League Klasse C: Right Oh v SC Hoge Vucht
Two Right Oh fans directed racist slurs towards at least two of the SC Hoge Vucht team that resulted in the match being abandoned as violent scuffles unfolded.
25 November 2018 – Trofeo Regione Veneto di Seconda Categoria: Marchesane v Real Stroppari
The coach of Real Stroppari directed sexist comments towards referee Sara Semenzinafter he was sent off in the second half of the match.
28 November 2018 – RSC Anderlecht player Ognjen Vranjes
RSC Anderlecht player Ognjen Vranjes has been heavily criticised for having a tattoo of Momcilo Dujic, a war criminal and commander in the fascist Chetnik movement during World War II.
30 November 2018 – Afghan Football Federation (AFF)
Senior figures of the AFF linked to the Afghan women’s national team have been reported to FIFA after it emerged they physically and sexually abused several players.
Instagram: Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba received several racist comments on Instagram after he posted a picture of him with a monkey.
Football Federation Australia: Western Sydney Wanderers Fan
The Western Syndney Wanderers fan that called Brisbane Roar’s player Jamie Young a monkey has received a stadium ban for life from Football Federation Australia.
Football Union of Russia: Spartak Moscow
Spartak Moscow have been fined by the Football Union of Russia and ordered to close part of its stadium for the next Russian Cup match after a group of fans directed racist chants towards Anzhi Makhachkala during the match.
SBV Vitesse: Six fans
SBV Vitesse has banned six fans responsible from attending matches after they directed anti-Semitic chants towards Ajax during the match played on 02 September 2018.
UEFA: Hellenic Football Federation
The Hellenic Football Federation was fined 10,000 EUR and a partial closure of the Pancretion Stadium in Heraklion in response to racist behaviour of fans during the UEFA Nations League match played between Greece and Estonia on 18 November 2018.
