Welsh FA back Football v Homophobia Month of Action
The Welsh Football Association (FA) have announced their support to the international anti-homophobia campaign Football v Homophobia (FvH) celebrated every February.
The FA is expecting the move will inspire clubs across the country to get involved after several, including Cardiff Dragons FC and Cardiff City Ladies FC, showed their support in 2015 through dedicated matches and talks around the topic.
Gwyn Derfel, Secretary of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League and Welsh Premier Women’s League, said: "The Football v Homophobia campaign is a fantastic way for Welsh football clubs at all levels to demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion.
"We look forward to seeing and hearing all about how clubs are engaging with this initiative."
FvH is an international football related campaign which promotes positive action against discrimination based on sexuality or gender identity in and through sport.
Commenting on the announcement Lou Englefield, Director of the FvH campaign, said: "We are really excited to have the backing of the Football Association of Wales for our 2016 campaign.
"In what will be a huge year for Welsh football, we hope that a wide range of Welsh clubs will support FvH and get involved in our month of action."
Clubs and groups looking to get involved can do so by designating a home match in February, including information in match day programmes or publishing articles on clubs’ websites.
