Fare sent two independent observers to be in attendance at the UEFA European Championship qualifier match between Croatia and Norway in late March 2015.
Our observers witnessed several discriminatory chants from up to 500 Croatia supporters. The chants were of an extreme nationalist nature and associated with far-right and fascist movements. There were also separate homophobic chants.
UEFA have subsequently taken regulatory action against Croatia for the above offences and a range of other incidents that took place during the match.
Fare observers are highly trained and experienced individuals who are independent and carry no affiliation to any clubs or national teams involved in the matches they observe. The observers are recruited from a pool of people outside of Fare member organisations.
Our member groups are unconnected with the action taken by football authorities and should not be subject to recriminations of any kind. All enquires on this matter are being dealt with by the Fare secretariat through info@farenet.org
