Anti-discrimination campaigners Sport Against Racism Ireland (SARI) are calling on groups to get involved in the 2014 Soccerfest, to be held in Dublin, in September, as part of the organisation’s work in bringing together people from different cultures and backgrounds. 

The annual event, one of the largest intercultural tournaments in Europe, is being organised for the 18th successive year and aims to build on its goals to tackle racism and promote respect for all.

The football festival was first organised in 1997, initially for members of the new communities to integrate with local communities and give them a platform for mainstreaming opportunities.

Developing the successes of previous years, the tournament is open to men’s, women’s, Under 13’s and now also Under 15’s teams.

The Fare member is encouraging new and returning teams, volunteers and families to get involved and attend the event on the weekend of 13-14 September. As part of the activities participants are given advice on mainstreaming into other sport organisations including developing links with football clubs.

“I think it is incredible to see everybody coming together from all different backgrounds and everybody working towards the same ultimate goal, which is fighting against racism in sport.” said the European Boxing bronze medallist, Eric Donovan.

A range of cultural activities including live entertainment and music for all ages will be provided throughout both days.

Groups can register their teams at Sari.ie until Friday, 15 August.
