Offside film festival kicks-off in Barcelona

For the second consecutive year, the football film festival 'OffsideFest. Cinema fora de joc' will bring to Barcelona a series of documentaries from across the world to illustrate the social and cultural impact of the sport.

Fourteen documentaries, from countries including Turkey, Sweden, Brazil, Poland, Italy, Argentina, El Salvador and the Unites States, will tell the stories of national teams, fan movements and football legends that used their visibility and influence to lead pro-human rights and democracy initiatives in their countries.

The documentaries will compete in two different categories, one voted by the audience, and the second, the Estrella award, elected by a jury constituted of Spanish and international football and cinema stars, such as the former Irish player Michael Robinson, the TV director of the daily newspapers Mundo Deportivo and Ara, Mònica Planas, and the director of the Berlin football film festival 11 mm, Christoph Gabler.

A short version of the festival will be broadcast via the website Filmin, where the films “Coach Zoran and his African Tigers”, “Democracia em preto e branco”, “Eighteam”, “El otro Maradona”, “Vi är bäst andå”, “We Must Go”, and “Proyecto Mágico” will be streamed.

The four-day event will run between 12-15 March in the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm, Barcelona. A series of other initiatives will be held as part of the event, such as a market of second hand football paraphernalia, the screening of Michael Robinson's best football programmes, a table football tournament and a special screening short documentaries about football.
