‘NEVER AGAIN’ challenges discrimination at Polish music festival
The anti-racist organisation ‘NEVER AGAIN’ joined the Polish Woodstock festival last weekend to help create awareness around racism and to reinforce the need to tackle discrimination.
The event which has now become one of Europe’s biggest music festivals, took place in Kostrzyn in Poland, and the Polish Fare member organised a football tournament under the banner ‘Let’s Kick Racism out of the Stadiums’. Players from many different countries other than Poland participated, including Russia, Ukraine and Germany. A team which was made up of African-born footballers from various Polish clubs also took part.
“We have organised the Fare anti-racist tournament at Polish Woodstock for some years now and we are very pleased that our friends from other countries could join it this year”, said the organisation’s representative and Fare board member, Rafal Pankowski.
As part of its educational focus, ‘NEVER AGAIN’ also organised a series of workshops, presentations and discussions about discrimination, xenophobia and multiculturalism targeting the festival’s wide audience.
“We decided a decade ago that we would join the festival because we could feel its positive energy, the audience is really open-minded and eager to learn about anti-discrimination measures”, added Rafal.
The annual festival which brings together more around 500,000 people from all over Europe took place between 1st and 4th August 2013.
