Football v Homophobia grants available to fight for equality during month of action
Fare and Football v Homophobia are joining forces to offer small grants to organisations around Europe hosting initiatives challenging prejudice and exclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people (LGBT+) during the Football v Homophobia month of action in February.
Up to €500 in grants are available to support activities that make football more inclusive and welcoming for all, and to increase the participation and representation of LGBT+ people in football.
Playing activities and tournaments can be supported in countries where LGBT+ people still face significant barriers to participation. Applicants might also consider hosting events that aim to deepen LGBT+ inclusion. This could include the production of educational resources, or creating debates around LGBT+ topics that have been marginalised.
Louise Englefield, Director of Football v Homophobia, said: "Support for Football v Homophobia from Fare will help us share a much needed message of inclusion in football at a time when we are seeing a growing LGBTphobia across Europe.
"Acceptance of lesbian and gay people is declining in some Eastern European countries and hate crime rising in the West. In February we want European football to come together and take a stand against LGBT+ discrimination.”
Piara Powar, Fare Executive Director, said: “Many LGBT+ people still face violence, discrimination and exclusion from mainstream society. This is as true in football as anywhere else.
"FvH is an important initiative that allows us to increase the visibility of the LGBT+ community, educate and create change across Europe."
The application process was open from 25th November until 5th January 2020. Applicants will be informed in the week of January 7th.
All activities should be implemented during the month of February 2020.
