A 5-a-side football tournament will raise awareness of prejudice and discrimination against the LGBT community today (17 February) in Woking, South East England, in support of the Football v Homophobia campaign.
The Football Association backed tournament will include matches for the youth, in the categories of Girls Under 10 and Boys Under 13, 14 and 15; and a series of workshops, for the wider society, about the Football v Homophobia campaign.
Ahead of the event, Councillor Graham Cundy, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Cultural and Community Development, said:
“Sport can act as a unifying force and the tournament will allow the young people involved to meet new people, have fun and put their football skills to the test. I would encourage young people in the Borough to get involved and the community to cheer them on!”
At the venue, there will also be awareness stands with informative materials on the campaign.
Football fans can attend the tournament free of charge to support the players.
