Trevor Phillips, chairman of the UK Commission for Racial Equality has urged football’s governing bodies to ban football teams whose supporters continue to racially abuse.
“Where nations fail to deliver they should face serious consequences. The abuse and assault suffered by black players is now such that in my view it constitutes unfair interference in the game itself. ”
“And if even managers can be dismissed from the touchline, national associations should be fined, docked points or in the worst cases shown the red card and thrown out of any European competition.”
