The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during December 2018. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.
All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eyewitness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.
Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 December 2018 – Belgian Second Division: RC Hades v Sporting Hasselt
An investigation is launched into allegations of racism after supporters of Sporting Hasselt sang the racist chant “Islamites; parasites” during a game against RC Hades.
02 December 2018 – English Premier League: Arsenal FC v Tottenham Hotspur FC
A Tottenham fan was arrested for throwing a banana skin at Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, during the north London derby.
02 December 2018 – Russian First Division: Spartak Moscow v Lokomotiv Moscow
A group of Spartak Moscow fans directed racial chants towards the Lokomotiv goalkeeper, Marinato Guilherme.
02 December 2018 – Copa Libertadores Feminina: Atlético Huila
CONMEBOL, the Columbian Football Federation and Atlético Hulia were accused of sexism after it was revealed that the club’s prize money for winning the women’s Copa Libertadores will go to the male team. The team were also forced to sleep on an airport floor en route home after winning the trophy.
02 December 2018 – Scottish Cup Final: Celtic FC v Aberdeen FC
An Aberdeen fan was caught on camera directing racist abuse at Celtic player, Scott Sinclair, during the second half of the Scottish Cup final.
03 December 2018 – Ballon d’Or: Martin Solveig
Co-host of the 2018 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, Martin Solveig, made a sexist comment by asking the first female Ballon d’Or winner, Ada Hegerberg, if she could “twerk”.
04 December 2018 – French First Division: Montpellier HSC v Lille OSC
A bag of peanuts was thrown at the Lille goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.
07 December 2018 – Milorad Kosanovic
FC ‘Napredak Kruševac’ head coach, Milorad Kosanovic, made a sexist comment towards ‘Sportski žurnal’ reporter, Sanja Milutinović, during a pre-match press conference.
08 December 2018 – Scottish Premier League: Hearts v Motherwell
Two Hearts fans were arrested after they directed racist abuse at Motherwell player Christian Mbulu.
08 December 2018 – English Premier League: Chelsea FC v Manchester City
Chelsea and the Metropolitan Police carried out investigations after Raheem Sterling was racially abused while playing for Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
08 December 2018 – S.S. Lazio Curva Nord
Members of Lazio’s Curva Nord unveiled an anti-Roma banner directed at their own player Sergej Milinković-Savić.
09 December 2018 – Raiffeisen Super League: FC Basel v FC Zürich
An FC Zürich fan threw a banana at the FC Basel striker, Aldo Kalulu.
09 December 2018 – Bolivian First Division: Club Bamin Real Potosi v Royal Pari FC
The Royal Pari coach Roberto Mosquera spoke out about the racist slurs being shouted in Bolivian stadiums after John Jairo Mosquera was called ‘monkey’ several times during a match.
09 December 2018 – Belgian First Amateur league: RFC Liège v Eendracht Aalst
A group of Eendracht Aalst fans directed racist slurs and chants at the Liège player, Randy Giargiani.
12 December 2018 – Dundee United FC: Jamie Robson
Dundee United footballer, Jamie Robson, is sanctioned by his club for wearing blackface at the club’s fancy dress Christmas party.
13 December 2018 – UEFA Europa League: MOL Vidi FC v Chelsea FC
A large group of Chelsea fans sang anti-semitic chants during the match.
A report was sent to UEFA for action.
13 December 2018 – UEFA Europa League: SS Lazio v Eintracht Frankfurt
Several Lazio fans were photographed performing Nazi salutes in the stadium.
15 December 2018 – English Premier League: Everton FC
Everton launched an investigation into their own fans after video footage emerged on social media of fans singing a racial song about their own defender Yerry Mina.
15 December 2018 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Legia Warsaw
A Turkish Legia Warsaw fan was racially abused and assaulted by five Legia fans on a bus carrying supporters to the game in Poland.
16 December 2018 – ÖFB-cup: Austria Wien v Rapid Wien
During the Vienna derby, homophobic chants were sang by both sets of fans.
16 December 2018 – English Premier League: Brighton & Hove Albion FC v Chelsea FC
A Chelsea supporter shouted homophobic slurs during the Premier League game.
19 December 2018 – FC Steaua Bucuresti: Gigi Becali
A sexist comment was made by FC Steaua Bucuresti owner Gigi Becali after UEFA recommended clubs to create a women’s football section.
20 December 2018 – Gabriel Camargo
The president of Deportes Tolima made strong sexist statements regarding women’s football.
23 December 2018 – Dutch First Division: MVV Maastricht v SC Cambuur
A group of supporters from MVV Maastricht directed racial abuse towards the SC Cambuur player, Issa Kallon.
26 December 2018 – Italian Serie A: FC Internazionale Milano v SSC Napoli
Napoli defender, Kalidou Koulibaly, was subjected to racist abuse during the match against Inter Milan. Napoli head coach Carlo Ancelotti reacted by saying that the next time such racist incidents occur he will stop the match and take his team off the field of play.
26 December 2018 – Australian First Division: Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers
An investigation was launched into allegations that some supporters of Adelaide United shouted racial slurs at Western Sydney Wanderers player Roly Bonevacia. Investigations are been carried out by the Australian Football Federation and Adelaide United.
29 December 2018 – English Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers
A video footage emerged on social media of a Tottenham Hotspur fan racially abusing an Asian supporter during the match.
29 December 2018 – Scottish Premiership: FC Rangers v FC Celtic
Sectarian chanting took place by both Rangers and Celtic fans.
29 December 2018 – Italian Serie A: SS Lazio v Torino FC
The Torino FC player, Soualiho Meite, was subject to racial abuse when he was leaving the pitch.
29 December 2018 – Scottish Premiership: Hearts v Hibernian
A Hibernian fan has been arrested for shouting racist abuse at Hearts defender Clevid Dikamona.
UEFA Europa League: MOL Vidi FC v Chelsea FC
Images were found on social media of Chelsea fans carrying a flag featuring a Nazi symbol and referring to SS death’s head units.
English Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur
A video footage emerged on social media of a Tottenham Hotspur fan racially abusing an Asian supporter.
English Premier League: Fulham FC v Huddersfield Town FC
Fulham’s player, Aboubakar Kamara, has been subject to racial comments on social media after he missed a penalty during the match against Huddersfield on 29 December.
FIFA: Afghan Football Federation (AFF)
FIFA suspended six AFF members including President Keramuddin Keram from all football-related activities while it investigates reports of physical and sexual abuse within the Afghanistan women’s national team.
Chelsea FC has temporarily suspended four fans from attending matches while a further investigation is carried out into the racial abuse on the 8th of December to which Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling was a subject.
Belgian First Amateur league: RFC Liège v Eendracht Aalst
Fans of Eendracht Aalst have been sanctioned for racist slurs and chants directed at the Liège player Randy Giargiani on the 9th of December.
Russian First Division: Spartak Moscow
The Russian Football Union sanctioned Spartak Moscow for racial chants directed at Lokomotiv goalkeeper, Marinato Guilherme, in a match on the 2nd of December. The sanction includes a partial stadium closure during the match against Krasnodar and a fine of 300,000 rubles.
Italian Serie A: FC Internazionale Milan
FC Internazionale Milan has been sanctioned for the racial abuse of the Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly that occurred on the 26th of December. Inter Milan will play their next two home league games with no spectators, plus another one with the ‘Curva Nord’ section closed.
English Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur
A Tottenham Hotspur fan is banned after racially abusing an Asian supporter at the stadium.
English Premier League: Manchester City
Manchester City confirm they will ban the supporter who made a racist comment towards a black Youtuber after a game against Manchester United.
Belgian Premier League: Club Brugge
Club Brugge sanctioned the fans who sang an anti-semitic song earlier this year in August during a match against rival RSC Anderlecht. The fans received a stadium ban.
