Football v Homophobia to host media workshop on gender, sexuality and sport

A workshop to raise awareness of the significance of gender and sexuality in sports reporting will be held on 12 February, in London, hosted by the international campaign Football v Homophobia in the frame of the LGBT month of action.

The initiative, co-organised by BBC Sport, aims to provide the participants with a range of practical and theoretical tools to develop their own best practice in reporting; familiarise them with the importance of gender and sexuality in sports reporting, with a particular focus football; and connect them with a range of industry experts that work positively to change football culture.

The workshop will be hosted by the freelancer journalist and co-founder of the LGBT initiative The Justin Campaign, Juliet Jacques, and will feature a panel of journalists and campaigners, including the BBC Sport’s lead for Women’s Sport, Shelley Alexander, the football writer, Musa Okwonga, and the Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Business School, Scott Lawley.

The event will also feature a panel discussion and an opportunity to network.

The workshop is free to attend, however all participants must register beforehand.
