Football v Homophobia Month of Action kick-off
The international initiative Football v Homophobia (FvH) will kick-off its 2014 campaign against homophobia in football with talks around the topic and a football table tournament, at Crystal Palace FC, next Saturday (1 February).
The event marks the first day of the LGBT Month of action and calls on groups, clubs and individuals to get involved in championing LGBTI rights in and through football.
The LGBT history month, held every February, aims to raise awareness of discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and celebrate the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
The Head of Crystal Palace FC Foundation, Donald Ford, will participate as a guest speaker, and representatives of the English Football Association (FA), the English Football League (FL), the Premier League (PL) and the Professional Footballer’s Association (PFA) will also attend the ceremony.
Following the opening speeches, FvH and Crystal Palace will hold a Football v Homophobia World Cup football table tournament, open to the general public.
As part of the Month of Action campaign, Fare and Football v Homophobia will be funding 12 organisations with small grants to stage football related activities throughout February.
To get involved in the FvH Month and find out more about initiatives taking place near you, check our website for updates or send us an email. If you organise an activity during the Month, get in touch.
