Football v Homophobia grants announced
The Fare network and the Football v Homophobia (FvH) campaign will be funding 12 organisations with small grants to stage football related activities during the LGBT Month of Action in February.
This year, actions including football tournaments, educational workshops, round-tables and conferences will reach supporters and clubs in countries including Bulgaria, Greece, Poland and Serbia to raise awareness of LGBT discrimination and send a message of inclusion in stadia.
The FvH Month of Action provides a focused time in February during which everyone involved in football can take action on discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
“Football v Homophobia is an international campaign opposing homophobia and transphobia in football. We have chosen LGBT History Month as the time in which football can unite and focus on making the biggest game in the world more inclusive of the LGBT community”, says Campaign Director, Lou Englefield.
The Small Grants Scheme is funded by Fare and offered small grants to football clubs, fan and community groups to recognise Football v Homophobia during February 2014.
“The message of the FvH campaign is compelling. We believe in moving forward as one and for that reason we are pleased that so many different groups will join us in challenging homophobia during the period,” said Fare Executive Director Piara Powar.
The 2014 successful applicants are:
• Asd Polisportiva Jackie Tonawanda, Italy
• Chrzaszczyki, Poland
• DFC Kreuzberg, Germany
• Football State, Israel
• Fotbollssupportrar mot homofobi (Footboll fans against homophobia), Sweden
• FOUL, Greece
