FARE Action Week – not just for the big boys27 October 2003

Alongside the highly visible activities at professional clubs and leagues, a whole series of events have taken place at community level as part of FARE Action Week. Events have been organised in schools, amongst local community groups and in local football settings – by football fans and with footballers.

Italian FARE partner Progetto Ultrà organised several debates in schools on methods to overcome racism, involving Ultrà fan groups from Bologna, Pisa, Fasano, Venezia, Manfredonia and La Spezia.

In Greece, for example, a teacher of a secondary school with a high percentage of students from migrant families has initiated a five-a-side tournament with the participation of four local schools in Athens. This local event has been the first activity in Greece in the framework of the FARE Action Week and therefore attracted coverage by national TV.
