Fare member DISCOVER FOOTBALL three-day conference on women's football in South East and East Asia has kicked-off, bringing together women from across the region to share experiences and build a network on sport and women’s rights.

Representatives from 11 countries, including Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Lao, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Tong and Vietnam, from both football and human rights organisations will share their views on women’s football and women’s rights in the region.

The conference will be held between 5 April and Friday 8 April in Berlin, Germany. Each day will address a different topic, including the legacy of the 2016 U20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea and the recognition and overcoming of structural discrimination against women in Asia. On the last day, participants will develop an impact paper for ideas for the region.

Participants include representatives of the Papua New Guinea, Lao, Bhutan and Tonga Football Association and experts from FIFA and FIFPRO.

The initiative is organised as part of DISCOVER FOOTBALL work to use football as a tool to advocate for and empower women and promote intercultural understanding. The German group has previously organised similar initiatives in Berlin, Lebanon and Brazil.
