Incidents list reported to Fare during September 201505 October 2015

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during September 2015. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

04 September 2015 – UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier: Hungary v Romania

Hungary fans chanted anti-Roma chants.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

05 September 2015 – UEFA Euro 2016 qualification: Ukraine v Belarus

Ukraine fans displayed several far-right banners.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

07 September 2015 – UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier: Romania v Greece

Romania fans chanted xenophobic chants against Hungarians and displayed a far-right banner.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

11 September 2015 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Lechia Gdansk v Korona Kielce

Lechia fans chanted Islamophobic chants.

11 September 2015 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Legia Warsaw v Zaglebie

Legia fans chanted Islamophobic chants and displayed Islamophobic banners.

12 September 2015 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Slask Wroclaw v Jagiellonia

Both teams fan chanted Islamophobic chants.

12 September 2015 – Polish Ekstraklasa: Lech Poznań v Podbeskidzie Bielsko Biała

Both teams fan chanted Islamophobic chants.

17 September 2015 – UEFA Europa League: KKS Lech Poznań v Belenenses

Lech fans displayed an Islamophobic banner outside one of the gates of the stadium before the match.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

25 September 2015 – France Football National: Strasbourg – Colmar

Strasbourg fans displayed a far-right anti-migrant banner.

26 September 2015 – Russian Premier League: Spartak Moskva – Zenit

Spartak fans chanted monkey chants towards Hulk, Zenit fans chanted monkey noises towards Spartak player Ze Luis.

27 September 2015 – Belgian Pro League: Kortrijk – Genk

Genk forward Christian Kabasele was taunted with monkey chants by Kortrijk fans

27 September 2015 – Czech Synot Liga: Slavia Praha – Sparta Praha

Fans of Slavia Prague performed monkey chants every time Sparta’s Costa Nhamoinesu touched the ball.

02 September 2015: Whitworth University women team

Five members of the women’s soccer team at a private Christian university in Washington state were suspended for one match Wednesday after a social media post surfaced showing them dressed in blackface and afro wigs.

Sanctions

UEFA: Hungary

UEFA ordered the Hungarian Football Federation to play their next UEFA competition match as host association behind closed doors and fined the Federation €70,000 for fans racism at the Euro 2016 qualifier on 04 September.

UEFA: Romania

UEFA ordered the Romanian Football Federation to play its next UEFA competition match as host association behind closed doors and fined the Federation €60,000 for fans’ xenophobia on 07 September.

Celtic: Leigh Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths has been handed a suspended two-match ban and fined £3,177 for images of the Celtic player filmed singing “Rudi Skacel is a fucking refugee” in a pub.
