João Vieira Pinto (ex Sporting Clube de Portugal), Abel Xavier (ex Liverpool), Nuno Gomes (ex Fiorentina) and Paulo Madeira (ex Benfica) are among the former international stars that will play against a team of Portuguese journalists and help highlight football’s inclusive values of respect, tolerance and fair-play.

“Initiatives as this one are always welcomed. Racism may not be very noticeable in Portugal, but it exists. We have fight it on a daily basis and not only during the week of action” said the former Benfica and Fluminense player Paulo Madeira.

“It is important to raise awareness and draw people’s attention to it. In this fight, we are never too many.” he added.

The initiative is organised by the Portuguese Union of Football Players (SJPF) in the frame of the tenth annual ‘Week of Action against Racism and Violence in Football‘.
