Roundtable in Warsaw discuss ‘RESPECT Diversity’ campaign ahead of UEFA Europa League final

A roundtable discussion, chaired by the Polish politician Elzbieta Radziszewska, was held last Saturday (21 March) in Warsaw to discuss ways to restore the positive legacy of the Euro 2012 ‘RESPECT Diversity’ campaign at the UEFA Europe League final, to be held on 27 May in the Polish capital.

The event brought together a number of Polish Members of Parliament, sports journalists, former athletes and institutions to participate in the debate and attend the ‘Stop racism in sports’ competition awards ceremony. The latter of which consisted of nation-wide competition for print, radio and television journalists covering issues of racism and discrimination.

The success of the ‘RESPECT Diversity’ campaign, which developed a series of initiatives in Poland and Ukraine to promote inclusion, well-being, and challenge discrimination during the tournament, were also discussed in the context of the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Poland and FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

At the event, the work of the ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association founder Marcin Kornak was highlighted as part of the commemorations of the first anniversary of his death.

The competition and ceremony were organised by the Fare Polish partner ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association, the Polish Parliamentary Committee on Sports and Tourism, Olympic Committee, Civic Rights Commissioner and the European Commission office in Warsaw.
