Lebanon and Germany to welcome DISCOVER FOOTBALL women’s tournaments

German Fare member DISCOVER FOOTBALL has announced it will be holding two international football festivals in 2015 to promote the participation of women in football and advocate for their empowerment worldwide.

In a year in which women's football is in the spotlight with the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, the festivals are seeking to use the game to raise awareness of women's football at amateur and professional level and increase the representation and coverage of the sport in the media.

From 28 June to 05 July, a friendly tournament and a series of workshops and skill-building sessions will promote an intercultural exchange and discuss cultural and other obstacles that limit the participation of women in football.

The DISCOVER FOOTBALL - BEYOND BORDERS tournament aims to share and celebrate experiences and learn about how to strengthen and empower women and girls in and through football.

The tournament will be played by mixed teams selected from a pool of participants. The players' registration is exclusive to women while the application for coaches, and others, is also open to men. Groups (between 2-9 people) as well as individuals (e.g. players, coaches, referees, players, activists, journalists, social workers) can register for the event until 29 March.

Later in July, the women's rights network will head to Lebanon where it will host the Arab Female Football Festival 2015: Our Game, Our Goals, between 25 July and 02 August. The event, organised ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Jordan in 2016, will raise awareness of and promote women’s football in the Middle East.

The festival will be the first of its kind in Lebanon and will also include a cultural festival in the capital Beirut featuring four days of football session and workshops.

Participants from all teams will tour around different areas of the country (North-Zgharta, South-Sour, Central North-Jounieh and Central South- Beirut) to participate in educational courses related to football, gender equality and social development, conducted by girls and women of the respective communities.

On the long run, the event aims to establish regular girls' and women's football teams in each area.

To register for the BEYOND BORDERS tournament in Berlin, read the call in Spanish, English or French and send your application to application2015@discoverfootball.de.
