Euro 2016 Pride House programme announced

During the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France, the host cities of Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Lille will welcome a series of awareness-raising events looking to promote diversity and address homophobia in sport as part of the LGBT rights initiative Euro Pride House.

The Pride House pavilion was first held at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 as safe, inclusive and accessible space for LGBT people to come together watch sport and participate in exhibitions, events and talks addressing LGBT discrimination and participation in sport and build relations with mainstream sport.

In France, the Euro Pride House is organised by the Fédération Sportive Gaie et Lesbienne in cooperation with its members FC Paris Arc-En-Ciel, Panamboyz United, MUST Marseille, Cargo Lyon, Centre LGBT Nice, SOS Homophobie and Les Dégommeuses as part of the European programme Queering Football developed to fight homophobia in football.

The mobile initiative will be held under the motto 'Be Yourself to Play Together' and will include a kick-off week in Paris with a panel discussion on homophobia in football on 08 June and a debate organised by the Fare member Les Dégommeuses on 09 June, as well as awareness-raising activities for the general public (e.g. exhibitions, distribution of flyers, quizzes and other games); an international symposium on sports, discrimination and homophobia on 15-16 June in Lyon; events in Marseille and Nice; and a Gala match. In addition, on 25 June Must Marseille will organised a debate and exhibition around homophobia in sport at the city's Euro fan zone.

The initiative was first envisaged in 2015, during the Football People weeks, when activists from England, Scotland, Canada and Russia representing the organisations that delivered the last four Pride Houses met in Paris for an international summit aimed at empowering local organisations in France to deliver their own Pride House at Euro 2016.

Throughout June the Euro Pride House will also screen matches, host a table football tournaments and host friendly matches, a place for fans to gather and network at the some of tournament's host cities.
