Argentine feminist football festival to challenge patriarchy

The third edition of Latin America's only grassroots football festival for women and focused on female empowerment will in 2018 be organised by Martas Fútbol Feminista with the support of the Fare network through Global Grants.

Between 17-19 November, the Argentine city of Santa Fé will welcome players and teams from across Latin America to play football and participate in workshops and cultural activities aimed at sharing experiences, promoting women's rights and gender equality and debate strategies to promote women's football and tackle sexism.

Titled 'Gambeteando al patriarcado: hacia al fútbol feminista' the festival will focus on pushing to level the playing field, from sharing tools and experiences on how to run and organise community female teams to claiming the pitch and tackling patriarchy.

The festival is one of 40 activities that in 2018 received funding from Fare to implement projects outside Europe aimed at empowering women and socially excluded communities and tackling discrimination in football.

It consists of a touring initiative that every year is organised in a different city and by a different group in Argentina. In 2016, Buenos Aires and Fare partner La Nuestra Fútbol Femenino hosted the first edition of the festival bringing together teams from the region and Germany.

To participate, teams must submit the tournament registration form completed by 31st August to martasfestival2018@gmail.com.
