Action Weeks anti-homophobia tifo nominated for Danish award

An anti-homophobia tifo organised by the Federation of Danish Football Fan Clubs (DFF) during the 2013 Fare Football People weeks has been nominated for an LGBT award in Denmark.

The nomination for the Axgil Gay Galla Sports award, organised by the Copenhagen Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, was made based on the contributions of the DFF in encouraging diversity through and in football.

“The Federation of Danish Football Fan Clubs has been actively involved in campaigning against homophobia in football. The ‘Football for All’ initiative was particularly successful because, among other things, it was able to engage the Danish Football Association”, read the nomination statement.

The initiative consisted of a large rainbow mosaic choreography staged during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier between Denmark and Italy on 11 October 2013.

“We feel honoured. A nomination of this kind is very important to the LGBT fans, it shows that we can make a difference and that people from outside football also recognise our efforts”, said the representative of the Danish umbrella organisation of fans DFF, Tine Hundahl.

“The initiative ‘Football for All’ was a simple message of support to the LGBT community as we believe in a fan culture based on diversity.” he added.

Established in 2008, the Axgil Gay Galla awards celebrate the contributions of individuals and organisations in tackling homophobia.
