Instituto Latinoamericano de Estudios para la Paz y la Convivencia Ciudadana (ILEPAZ) is organising a series of football tournaments over two days during the #FootballPeople weeks. This will be filmed for a documentary to capture the benefits of using football for refugee and migrant inclusion in Chiapas. The state of Chiapas where over 80,300 migrants were deported in 2015, is often used as a stop on the migration route from Central America. “Football Without Borders” proposes to document, raise awareness and promote conditions for the social inclusion of migrants and refugees from Central America in host communities in Chiapas, Mexico.
ILEPAZ are training members of these communities to become coaches, the teams will be formed of both men and women. Snippets of the backstage preparations and interviews will be shared via social media using hashtags such as #soccer, #discrimination, #migration, #women and many others. The organisation will produce a documentary that aims to create better insight into the lives of migrants and refugees from Central America as well as highlighting the barriers they face.
