Incidents Reported to Fare During November 2013

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during November 2013. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

02 November 2013 – Polish League II (Western Group): Blekitni Stargard v Odra Opole

Anti-Semitic chants from a group of Odra Opole fans targeted the former Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, who died on 28 October 2013

03 November 2013 – Bulgarian A PFG: Levski Sofia v Pirin Gotse Delchev

Fans of Levski displayed racist banners. Levski were fined €1,570 by the Bulgarian Football Union.

03 November 2013 – Italian Serie A: Lazio v Genoa

Fans of Lazio displayed a banner in support of the Greek neo-Nazi political party Golden Dawn.

06 November 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Ajax v Celtic

Display of a banner referring to religious hatred.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action. Ajax were fined €25,000 for the improper conduct of their supporters.

06 November 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Atletico Madrid v Austria Vienna

Fans of Austria Vienna displayed far-right material.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

06 November 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Olympiacos v Benfica

Fans of Olympiacos displayed far-right material.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

15 November 2013 – FIFA World Cup qualifier: Greece v Romania

Reports of Nazi salutes performed by Greek fans during Greece’s national anthem. Details of the incident were passed to FIFA for action.

19 November 2013 – FIFA World Cup qualifier: Croatia v Iceland

Far-right chants performed by the Croatian defender Josip Šimunić and Croatian fans.

Details of the incident were passed by Fare to FIFA for action.

Croatian state prosecutors fined Šimunić €3,140 for “spreading racial hatred”.

22 November 2013 – French Liga 1: Ajacco v Olympique Marseille

Racist chants from Ajacco supporters targeted the Marseille players Mandanda, Nicolas Nkoulou and André-Pierre Gignac.

23 November 2013 – Russia: CSKA Moskva v Spartak Moskva

Fans of CSKA Moskva displayed far-right banners.

The Moscow club was fined €250 by the Russian Football Union.

23 November 2013 – Uruguay: Danubio v River Plate

Fans of Danubio racially abused River Plate’s Colombian player Flavio Córdoba.

24 November 2013 – Spain: Sevilla v Real Betis

After being booked with a red card, Real Betis central defender Paulão was racially abused by Betis fans.

Betis fans also performed Nazi salutes.

24 November 2013 – Croatia Prva HNL: Hajduk v HNK Osijek

The ultras group of Hajduk, Torcida sang homophobic and far-right chants.

24 November 2013 – Ukraine Premier League: Dynamo Kyiv v Goverla

Fans of Kyiv displayed far-right material in support of the Greek neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn.

26 November 2013 – UEFA Champions League: FC Porto v Austria Wien

Fans of Austria Wien displayed far-right material.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

28 November 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Legia Warsaw v Lazio Roma

Racist, homophobic and far-right stickers were found in several areas of the stadium. The club have been asked to remove them by Fare.
