Incidents reported to Fare during November 201417 December 2014

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during November 2014. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

01 November 2014 – Spanish Division de Honor Juvenil de Fútbol: Real Madrid v Atlético de Madrid

Atlético de Madrid youth coach Armando de la Morena made anti-Roma remarks aimed at Real Madrid Chilean player Benjamín Kuscevic.

The Atlético de Madrid coach was sent off after the remarks.

02 November 2014 – Greek Super League: Panathrakikos FC v OFI

In a post-match interview OFI coach Gennaro Gattuso made sexist comments in reference to a decision of the referee.

02 November 2014 – Italian Pro League: Alexandria v Arezzo

Commenting on the defeat of Arezzo, the team’s manager Ezio Capuano made homophobic comments.

03 November 2014 – French Ligue 1: Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol

In a group interview with a local newspaper, Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol suggested that African players lack intelligence and discipline.

04 November 2014 – UEFA Champions League: Arsenal v Anderlecht

A group of Anderlecht fans was arrested for alleged racist behaviour aimed at Arsenal player Danny Welbeck.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

06 November 2014 – UEFA Europa League: GNK Dinamo Zagreb v Red Bull Salzburg

A group of GNK Dinamo Zagreb fans sang homophobic chants.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

06 November 2014 – UEFA Europa League: Legia Warsaw v Metalist Kharkiv

A number of Legia Warsaw supporters displayed far-right banners.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

07 November 2014 – Chilean Torneo de Apertura: O’Higgins v San Marcos de Arica

San Marcos de Arica Venezuelan forward Emilio Rentería was racially abused by O’Higgins fans.

The Chilean FA have ordered O’Higgins to play a match behind closed doors for fans’ racism.

09 November 2014 – Austrian Football Bundesliga: Rapid Wien v Austria Wien

A group of Rapid Wien fans chanted anti-Semitic slogans.

15 November 2014 – UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier: Austria v Russia

A banner featuring far-right symbols was displayed by a group of supporters of the Russian national team.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

15 November 2014 – UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier: Italy v Croatia

A group of Croatia national team fans displayed a banner featuring far-right symbols.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

UEFA have ordered the partial closure of the stadium in which the national team will play the next UEFA competition match as the host association and imposed a €80,000 to the Croatian Football Federation.

16 November 2014 – Twitter: Dutch national team players

A number of Dutch national team players were subjected to racist abuse on twitter after posting a group ‘selfie’.

21 November 2014 –English Football League Championship: Dave Whelan

Wigan Athletic FC owner Dave Whelan made anti-Semitic remarks in an interview with The Guardian.

22 November 2014 – Chilean Torneo de Apertura: San Marcos de Arica v Deportes Iquique

A group of Deportes Iquique fans racially abused San Marcos de Arica striker Emilio Rentería.

The match was suspended for a period of time due to the incident.

22 November 2014 – Russian Premier League: Torpedo Moscow v Rostov

A group of Torpedo fans racially abused Rostov black players.

The Russian Football Federation sanctioned Torpedo with a three match partial stadium closure and a €2,000 fine.

27 November 2014 – UEFA Europa League: Dynamo Kyiv v Rio Ave

A group of Dynamo Kyiv supporters performed Nazi salutes.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

27 November 2014 – UEFA Europa League: KSC Lokeren OV v Legia Warszawa

A group of Legia fans racially abused Lokeren goalkeeper Boubacar Barry.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

29 November 2014 – Bulgarian Premier League: Levski v Litex Lovech

A group of Levski fans racially abused Litex Lovech French-born Senegalese defender Jackson Mendy.

The Bulgarian Football Association sanctioned Levski with a €19,200 fine.

29 November 2014 – English Championship: Middlesbrough v Blackburn

Blackburn Beninese striker Rudy Gestede was racially abused by a group of Middlesbrough fans.

The English Football Association have launched an investigation.

29 November 2014 – Russian Premier League: FC Mordovia Saransk v FC Zenit

The match referee Alexey Matyunin has allegedly racially abused Zenit Brazilian striker Hulk.

The Russian Football Association have launched an investigation.

30 November 2014 – Cypriot First Division: APOEL v Omonoia

A group of APOEL fans displayed a number of far-right banners and racially abused Omonoia player Mickaël Poté.

30 November 2014 – Twitter: Stan Collymore

Former English footballer Stan Collymore made homophobic remarks on Twitter regarding the Premier League match Southampton v Manchester City.
