Incidents reported to Fare July 201312 August 2013

The following list of incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia has been reported to Fare during July 2013. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to FARE’s attention through eye- witness or media accounts. FARE has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by members or national partners.

12 July 2013 – Croatia: GNK Dinamo v NK Osijek

During this Croatian first division match, supporters of both teams chanted several homophobic and racist slogans targeting the HNS, the Croatian Football Federation, and Mamić.

The Cohort, supporters of Osijek, were heard chanting “HNS faggots, you have fucked up football” and “Mamić, you Gypsy, get out of Croatia!” The Bad Blue Boys, supporters of Dinamo, sang repeatedly “Mamić, you Gypsy, leave the holy shrine” and “Blažičko, Blažičko, Mamić’s pičko! (pussy)”.

17 July 2013 – UEFA Champions League – Győr ETO FC v Maccabi Tel Aviv

During the Champions League match between the Hungarian and Israeli teams, supporters of Győr targeted the opposition players and supporters with anti-Semitic chants.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

17 July 2013 – UEFA Champions League – The New Saints v Legia Warszawa

Supporters of Legia displayed discriminatory materials including far-right banners.

18 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Śląsk Wroclaw v FK Rudar Pljevlja

A racist sticker against Roma people was spotted during the match displayed by the fans of the Polish club Śląsk Wroclaw.

18 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Vojvodina v Honvéd Budapest 

The Vojvodina Cameroonian player Aboubakar Oumarouin was targeted with monkey chants from the Honvéd supporters throughout the match. Homophobic slogans aimed at the Vojvodina players (“Vojvodina Homosexual”) were also chanted by the supporters of the Hungarian club.

18 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Rijeka v Prestatyn

Far-right banners with Celtic Crosses were displayed at the stadium by a group of Rijeka fans.

23 July 2013 – UEFA Champions League – Dinamo Zagreb v Fola

During the Champions League match, the Bad Blue Boys, supporters of Dinamo, sang racist and homophobic songs.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA. Their disciplinary committee sanctioned the club with a partial closure of the East Stand for the next UEFA match and issued them with a €25,000 fine.

23 July 2013 – Friendly match – AC Milan v Sassuolo

The AC Milan player Kévin Constant was targeted with racist chants made by the Sassuolo fans.

24 July 2013 – UEFA Champions League – Legia v TNS

The fans of the Polish club Legia displayed far-right banner containing SS Totenkopf (a skull) and rune symbols.

25 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Piast v Qarabağ

Throughout the match, banners with the slogan ‘Good Night Left Side’ and a picture of a person kicking another were displayed at the Piast tribune.
During the second half of extra time, a group of Piast supporters sang racist chants and made monkey noises aimed at Qarabağ’s Congolese player, Ulrich Kapolongo.

25 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Lech Poznan v Honka Espoo

A Lech Poznan fan was seen distributing stickers containing the far-right meaning, ‘Good night left side’ at the stadium’s entrance.

25 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Honvéd Budapest v Vojvodina

In the 11th minute of the match, the Honvéd supporters started chanting “Dirty Gypsies”, which was accompanied by Nazi salutes.

27 July 2013 – UEFA Champions League – Dinamo Zagreb v Sheriff

The supporters group of Dinamo Zagreb, Bad Blue Boys chanted racist and homophobic slogans on several occasions during the game, including: “Mamić gypsy go away from holy club”, “HNS- Croatian FA faggots you fuck up football”.

Announcements were made by the club and the police over the tannoy system, calling for the Dinamo supporters to stop chanting.

31 July 2013 – UEFA Europa League – Molde v Legia

The supporters of Legia were seen displaying a banner with a Celtic Cross.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

06 September 2013 – Hungary: Budapest Honvéd FC

Budapest Honvéd FC have been ordered to play their next home game behind closed doors and fine €50,000 for fans racism.

UEFA also decided to enforce a suspended sanction against Honvéd from August 2008, which related to a previous incident. The sanction is to play one UEFA competition match behind closed doors.

The sanction relates to incidents reported during the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, first and second legs played against FK Vojvodina (18/07/13 and 25/07/13).

06 September 2013 – Poland: GKS Piast Gliwice
GKS Piast Gliwice have been sanctioned for fans racism with a stadium partial closure during the next UEFA competition home match and fined €5,000.

The sanction relates to incidents reported during the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, second leg, during the match played against Qarabağ FK (25/07/13).

25 September 2013 – Croatia: GNK Dinamo Zagreb

GNK Dinamo Zagreb have been ordered to play two home UEFA competition matches behind closed doors, with half of the suspension (one game) deferred for a probationary period of five years and fined €70,250 for fans racist behaviour.

The sanction relates to incidents reported during the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg played against FK Austria Wien (27/08/13) and third qualifying round first leg played against FC Sheriff (30/07/13).
