Incidents list reported to Fare during May 2015

The following incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia have been reported to Fare during May 2015. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye-witness or media accounts. A Fare observer scheme is also currently at place at UEFA club competitions to monitor discriminatory behaviour.

Fare has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by our members.

02 May 2015 – Israeli Premier League: Beitar Jerusalem v Hapoel Kiryat Shmona

A group of Beitar Jerusalem supporters racially abused Hapoel Kiryat Shmona Arab player Ahmed Abed.

03 May 2015 – Brazilian Gaúcho Regional Championship: Internacional v Grêmio de Porto Alegre

A group Grêmio fans performed monkey chants towards Internacional players.

09 May 2015 – English Championship: Ipswich v Norwich

A Norwich fan has reportedly chanted a racist song targeting Ipswich player Tyrone Mings.

10 May 2015 – Peruvian Torneo Apertura: Cienciano v Real Garcilaso

Real Garcilaso player Jhoel Herrera was subjected to racist abuse from an unidentified group of fans.

14 May 2015 – UEFA Europa League: FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk v Napoli

A group of FC Dnipro fans displayed a far-right banner on the pitch after the match final whistle.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

16 May 2015 – Bosnian and Herzegovinian Premier League: FK Zeljeznicar v FK Sarajevo

A group of FK Sarajevo supporters unfurled a large homophobic banner.

16 May 2015 – Italian Serie A: Inter Milan v Juventus

Juventus French midfielder Paul Pogba was racially abused by a group of Inter Milan fans.

17 May 2015 – First Croatian Football League: Osijek v Istra 1961

A group of Osijek supporters chanted xenophobic, homophobic and anti-Roma chants towards the general public and the match referees.

17 May 2015 – Ukrainian Premier League: Dynamo Kyiv v FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk

A group of Dynamo Kyiv supporters displayed several far-right banners.

20 May 2015 – Cypriot Cup: AEL v APOEL

A group of APOEL fans displayed several far-right banners.

23 May 2015 – Cypriot First Division: Apollon v Omonoia

Omonoia website reported the racist abuse of the club’s French-born Beninese international Michael Pote by a group of Apollon fans.

26 May 2015 – Italian Serie B: Spezia v Avelino

A group of Spezia supporters directed monkey chants at Avelino players.

27 May 2015 – UEFA Europa League: FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk v Sevilla

A group of FC Dnipro supporters displayed several far-right banners.

A report was sent to UEFA for action.

30 May 2015 – United States Major League Soccer: Orlando City v Columbus Crew

Orlando City supporters group Lion Firm chanted songs including the word ‘retarded’.

31 May 2015 – Spanish Segunda División B: Cádiz CF v Real Oviedo

A security steward at Cádiz CF ground banned a Cádiz fan from entering the stadium for carrying an LGBT flag.

31 May 2015 – Spanish Segunda División B: Real Zaragoza v Las Palmas

A Zaragoza fan was allegedly banned from entering the stadium for declaring himself as a Nazi and performing a Nazi salute.

Sanctions

Israel Football Association: Beitar Jerusalem

The Israel Football Association deducted two points of Beitar Jerusalem for their fans’ racism at the Israeli Premier League match against Hapoel Kiryat Shmona on 02 May 2015.

The sanction was subsequently halved in the appeal.

UEFA: FC Dnipro

UEFA Disciplinary Committee have ordered FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk to play their next UEFA competition match as host club behind closed doors and to pay a 50,000€ fine for the racist behaviour of their supporters at the Europa League match against Napoli.

Serie A: Inter Milan

Serie A have sanctioned Inter Milan with a partial one-match ban, suspended for a year, following the racist abuse of the Juventus player Paul Pogba at the Serie A match against the Turin team on 16 May 2015.

State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport: Real Zaragoza fan

The Spanish State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport banned a Real Zaragoza fan from entering sports grounds for a period of six months and ordered the fan to pay a 3,500€ for his/her discriminatory behaviour.
