Education pack

English Language

A multimedia training programme which can be used in the training and education of trainers/coaches and sports instructors, to help them to avoid and challenge discrimination in their work in youth sports.

It consists of 10 video clips showing different scenarios and an accompanying handbook with advice for coaches on the issues raised in the films.

It was compiled with European funding and the handbook is available online in English, French, German and Serbian. The films contain no dialogue so no language knowledge is necessary.

KickIt Out

A guide for teachers to a UEFA-backed project for schools in Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein to learn about other countries, fair play and create an awareness of cultural diversity. It was designed to be used in the run-up to the 2008 European Championships, but can be used in other contexts too. The guide is in English but is also available in German - see 'Euroschools 2008 Leitfaden' for German version.

This learning pack is designed for teachers to use children’s interest in the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa to explore South Africa’s history, culture and context.

It is packed with activities aimed at 9-14 year olds which address many elements of the National Curriculum.

Football fan culture, carbon footprints and issues of equal opportunity, discrimination and human rights are covered. Football and Freedom also encourages schools to develop a longer term interest in South Africa through twinning.

 

National Union of Teachers (NUT), Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) and others

A 92 page education pack for sports players, coaches and directors about homophobia in sport. Whilst it's American, and accompanies a 15-minute DVD which can be bought from the Women's Sports Foundation website, it contains advice and case studies which are relevant in Europe too.

Griffin, Pat et al

A series of activities for primary and secondary pupils involving written and oral expression to promote positive sporting values like tolerance, equality and cooperation. Most of the activities use examples from the Olympic Games. Race and gender equality are featured in the ‘Humanity’ section. The site stresses the importance of input from teachers. It includes video clips, online games and group exercises. Available in Catalan, Spanish, English, French and Portugese.

Fundació FC Barcelona

A 31 page information pack to accompany the short film of the same name that was produced by The FA and Kick It Out. (The film can also be found in this toolkit). It includes examples of what homophobia is, how it affects people, ways of challenging it and myths and facts about homosexuality. There is information for young people, teachers, workers and managers.

An education pack that accompanies the 'Pioneers, Past Masters & Future Challenges' exhibition about diversity in football. The exhibition can be bought from Kick It Out for £50 or borrowed from Football Unites, Racism Divides.
